My son was over this afternoon.  His bow has a low clicking noise that happens at about 1/3 of the way into the draw.  The sound is low, but we both think it maybe loud enough to catch a deer's attention.

His bow is a take-down recurve, and the noise appears to occur around the upper limb attachment.

Does anyone have suggestions on what it may be caused from, and how to stop the sound?  Has anyone else experienced a similar situation?

Put some mole skin where the limbs meet the risers

I had same problem on one of my bows, the builder told me to use some wax on the limb pads.  I believe I used Johnsons paste wax, problem went away.

Put string wax on riser pad.

I use chapstik , nice applicator. Don't forget the bolts and pins....

Moleskin on limb pads and clean the pads occasionally, bow wax on the bolts and pin has worked on 2 different bows that had a similar problem.

My Bear Takedown does that . If I draw it back and let it down , it doesn't make a sound after that .
If I shoot , the next draw will click .
So I always draw it back when I get on stand and I'm good to go .

This! Thin cork gasket material between the limb and riser helps sometimes too, but you still have to lubricate the pins especially, if they get wet and rust, it can jack up your limb when you remove it from the riser

I use toilet wax ring wax rubbed on very thin. That's what Wes Wallace uses on his bows.

String wax is all I have used on limb surface and guide pins and problem solved

Would it be the string wax. Sometimes if ther is too much wax in the string as you pull the string back it will stick. Just a thought.

I had a bow once that made a clicking noise because of the limb pin moving in its socket as the bow was drawn.  Putting a lubricant such as those suggested on the pin provided a temporary fix, and had to be reapplied as it wore off.  Over time, I guess the limb pin polished the inside of the socket enough that the sound went away permanently.

If it was ME pulling that bow, I'd suggest it was my elbow popping !

I had the same problem awhile back and I unstrung the bow and tightened the limb bolts just a little. If you try this don't over do it. My problem went away.

Try waxing the limb pockets first, that will more than likely solve the problem.

Wes Wallace uses toilet bowl wax for this application.    

Try a product called "Door Ease" on  the pads. It only cost a few bucks and will last forever.

Since it's a Brackenbury bow with new Wes Wallace limbes, I think I'll use Wes' method!

And, thanks, McDave...  I believe your description matches what's going on.

By the way, my son tighted the limb bolts.  But, I'm not too much in favor of over tightening - could cause more problems than it solves.
