I have made a lot of strings out of B50, FF, and D97.   I ran out of B50 and want to make a few more strings (Flemish) for a couple older bows.  One web site says B55 is better and still ok for older bows (not FF compatible).   Thoughts on B50 vs B55 ?

Chuck.  I've used both.  Can't really tell a difference, though B55 is supposed to be a little less stretchy.  Regardless, according to the manufacturer, can use B55 anywhere you would use B50.  I tend to use padded loop D-97 on older bows as well, unless they have very small, unreinforced tips.

B-55 is just a slightly higher grade of polyester.  A little less stretch/creep, a little more durable.  Nothing earth-shattering.

B-55 is safe for any bow.

Thanks guys.  I need to buy a bit, but I don't want to buy a bunch ( even though it is comparatively cheap).  I am liking the D97 I bought recently and I still have FF as well.

I spoke with Robb Lee ( son of Bob Lee, mfr of the RWH bow in question and bowyer for the Bob Lee Archery Co) and he was pretty adamant that I don't use any fast flight like materials on that bow or it would come apart.  Not sure if he is just trying to be safe or what.  I also tend to use well padded, mid strand count fast flight type strings for most everything else as well Jerry.

I guess another order for supplies is eminent... Might get some of those Hunters heads to try as well.

ChuckC, back in 1997, Mr. Bob Lee told me face to face that FF would destroy his bows, and probably anybody else's.  He made no bones about it, so I've kept my wife's and my bows from that era strung with Dacron.  I know that now Mr. Lee uses FF, and I know that lots of people use modern strings on vintage bows.  I would be a basket case with worry, so there's no way it would be worth it for me to try.  We live in a wonderful free country, and people can make decisions for themselves, just as I've done.
