Im new to bowhunting and am having issues with tuning my arrows.  I am trying to get the right weight insert combination and therefore cannot permanently glue my insert into my arrows. My problem lies in that when I shoot the arrow to test it, my point and insert with the weights are all stuck in my target. My target is the Block made of compressed styrofoam. Is it the wrong type of target for tuning Can anyone shed any light on this or make any suggestions? Thanks

If you are using carbon shafts you can glue your inserts in w/tite bond. They can be removed by unscrewing the field tip slightly and applying heat from a butane torch to the field tip and pulling with pliers. Be careful not to put the flame directly on the shaft. If you are happy with the length and want to adjust the weight be sure to clean the residue of old glue out of the shaft and swab w/ alcohol before appling new glue. I have used this method successfully with several different carbons.

I suggest a bag target as they do not hold onto the points as much as the Block.  Another option would be to make a target out of multiple layers of cardboard.  It wouldn't last all that long but you could use it for tuning then return to The Block for practice.

Another suggestion is glue your insert in and if you need to cut a little more off, pull the knock out and cut it off that end, then just slide the knock back in.

I guess if we run into the bear that is making these tracks, we oughta just get off the trail.......He seems to like it!
