Is anyone shooting a short recurve, maybe 54" or about that length? I'm thinking of a 60# bow that is short.

How do you like it? How is the performance?   :campfire:

Raineman

I have been using shooting my Dad's old Ben Pearson Spectre, 52", this year practicing and hunting. It is  VERY temperamental and has enough hand shock to have almost destroyed my elbow. I am BEGGING to harvest a deer with it this year so I can retire it to the rack.

Vance in AK.

I'm shooting a Fedora 560 Td, 54", & 62# @ 28" (I draw 27")
I just picked it up a couple of months ago & haven't played with it a lot yet, but so far I love it.  I shoot it much more consistently than I did my 62" BM MA III in the same weight range.
Until this bow I've been a LB shooter because I never found a recurve I could shoot well as consistently as my LBs, but I believe this Fedora is changing that.
As to the performance, I haven't chronographed it yet, but I believe it's faster than my BW with the same arrows.

After I posted this,I got my bear kodiak mag off the rack, and it's close to 80#..yes 80#..   :scared:   I shot it and I can group well with it. It is 52" I believe.

I like the shortness of it,and it shoots hard, but the last 2 inches or so of draw,it stacks like mad. Maybe I need to have a bow made? Hmmmm....     I am kind of starting over..   :campfire:

I shoot a Morrison Cheyenne takedown recurve. 54" 57# at my draw. I really like the performance of Bob's bows. This spits a 670 grain arrow out pretty fast. I don't get any stack with my short draw length and the bow is easy to handle in a blind and on the stalk.

My son shoots the heck out of his KMag.

I shoot a 48" goldenhawk mag 61#@25 performance is excellent, without finger pinch, and the arrow hits with authority.jonesy

Cherokee Scout

I shoot short bows, and they are my favorites. I have a 54" Widow PSR, a 54" Sipsey Stick and a 56" BlackCreek. These bows, as most short bows, are fun to shoot.

I've got a 3piece takedown 54" fedora, 53@29. Shoots great and handles great while in a tree too.

I have a 54" Bighorn takedown, 60# @ 28, and a 52" Elburg, 60# @28.  Both shoot sweet, with no finger pinch. Excellent for tree stand hunting.

I have a 45" Black Mountain Obsidian that burns the feathers off. No pinch and quiet as a bow can be.

I'd second the motion to check out the Sheepeater Obsidian!

Light, fun, hard hitting little bow that does fine at my 29" draw length.

Dave, I wish we had the chance to cross paths and do a little "Eater" shooting together!

These are really fine short bows.

I wish I was one of you who can shoot those 48'' bows accurately. there would be real advantages to being able to shoot out of a smaller box of cover.  Is there a trick to it or have I been shooting Hill style bows for too long to change?

Pete W

Short bows are fun, and can be very acurate if you take time for tuning.
I reviewed the Sheepeater and it is a great little bow. I shot the Sheepeater Obsidian and like it more than the original version.
Rodney Wrights Stalker that I reviewed at 46" is also a surprising bow that is silent, and dead after the shot, but not for draws over 28".
I am in the process of reviewing the Toelke 52" RC now and should have it done this week. It would be hard not to like this one.

You can shoot short bows anywhere, but there are many places you can't shoot the long ones.

I just got a 54" Bob Lee Hunter.  I draw 26".  I have to say I like it.

lilbobby

I have a 54" " Border Black Douglas Ultra 47 @ 25.5" shots and groups well.

I have always shot the longer bows better, but that Sheepeater sure has caught my eye! Have yet to hear a bad word of any kind about them. Mike

My only "short bows" are old classics. '64 K-Mag 53#, 52", Wing Thunderbird 50#, 54", and Howatt Hi-Speed 47#, 54". All are outstanding shooters, at least at my 28" draw; none of the negative BS you keep hearing: finger pinch, stacking, blah blah blah.
