Cool melt

Thinking of getting some of the blue cool melt for carbon inserts so it might be easier to tune my arrows but have never used it and unsure if it works well as a permanent fix for inserts as well. For those who use it how do you prep shaft and have you had any problems with inserts coming out after extensive shooting and hunting? I have always used some sort of epoxy and never had a problem with one coming out but when tuning I can't remove them without tearing up the arrow or insert.

I use it both for tuning and for a permanent fix. To remover the best thing to do is have some boiling water in a glass. Then just dip them in a second and pull them out. You have to use heat to melt new glue on but it works well. I originally just planned on using it for tuning I have liked it so much I use it on all my carbons now. I think it does make a difference in holding if you score the inside of the arrow first clean it with alcohol. That's a must with this stuff

Big Jim's melt works great, easy to use and you can add a little heat it a point and pull out your insert. Go on his site and watch his video.

Just a thought but when tuning you can cut from the nock end.

Yup Big Jims is the cat's you know what! I do find that extra prep pays off with better results for me-- scratch inside of arrow and insert w small round file, clean w alcohol, dry then glue up.

Yeh I do that with bare shafts but when I fletch a few to compare and need to adjust I would like to be able to just remove insert. Also for lining up my broadheads.Thanks

Big Jims.....my experiment with cool melt was a failure. Still waiting to hit one of three Zwickey Delta's buried deep in my Block target. Haven't lost a single one since I switched to Big Jims stuff.

I have been using the old hot melt Ferr-L-Tite for field point and broadheads on woodies. Is there anything better or equal? I have had great luck with the old stuff. I started using Ferr-L-Tite over 40 years ago.

I have had really good luck with the amber hot melt Ferr-L-Tite for woodies but was not impressed with the blue cool melt version for carbon inserts, It got soft on me in hot weather.

Use Big Jims Quick Stick hot melt for all your inserts, whether tuning or permanent. It is the best insert glue on the planet!

I love the blue melt the tap water in my house gets hot enough to melt glue and do adjustments, knock on wood I have yet to have a glue failure and have been using it for 3+ years. Great for tuning I think.

I started using the Big Jim Stuff a couple years ago. Really works awesome.Check out Jims video of the 800 grain arrows at 80 pds and the tree.I have a bottle of denatured alcohol to clean the inside of the carbons with and have yet to have one pull out. Great product and cheap!

The Kimsha Quick Stick that 3Rivers sells should work just as well.

I ordered the bohning ferr-l-tite cool flex. It's different than the kimsha quick stick. Anyone used it?

The ferrule tite is completely different stuff. It will work, but I have lost a few inserts in targets here and there using it. I have been using the Quick Stick now for about 5yrs, and never lost a single insert.

I used the cool melt recently and it seemed fine. But i have yet to try it with a broadhead.

Didn't like it. Roughed and cleaned the he inside and still lost some points. Gorilla glue white was suggested by Joel T. and it works fine. So does good old ferrule tire if you minimize heat and quench a small ASAP.
