The weather here is surprisingly nice for January in Michigan .
59° and calm .
So , let's do up some woodies for stumpin' . ( The better half don't like me using polyurethane in the house . )
I had some Sitca Spruce that I got at the Kalamazoo trad archery show two years ago .
Checked for straight , good .
Cut and tapered .
The natural color is slightly darker than Doug Fur and cedar , so I'm going to just finish them with no stain .
First coat of wipe on poly and.... Oh my...That wood is beautiful and the grain is very tight and straight with no runouts at all .
Why hadn't I tried these before ?
The only bad thing about it if it's a bad thing , thers no wonderful smell when you cut them .
No noticeable smell at all .
My German Pine smells the best but they usually need straightening .

Sounds like a great idea. I dipped some arrows this morning before I headed up to trufant for some stump shooting. such a nice day to be out.

Sounds fun. I've always wanted to try wooden arrows, but never have.

Sounds like your idea of nice January weather and mine are two different things   :biglaugh:

I hear ya graps..I had my recurve out yesterday..Had 6 flu flus with me...I was slinging arrows at every bird that flew by me on the field edge...Darn riot man!!!

i agree- i really like sitka spruce- its lighter and super tough- so you can up the point weight-get a good foc, but not be way overboard on the weight.

it is recognized as the strongest wood for its weight in the world!!!

I didn't know that about the Sitca Spruce , but I'm very impressed with the grain structure .
