My current bow is 62@31. Nothing special. Standard modern recurve with the usual center cut. By default I pretty much have to use carbon. Sometimes I like to use wood arrows too but I need 85-90s and those aren't too common. How many others have the same problem?

I'd think Surewood would have them in Douglas Fir.  Ive shot a lot of 80-85 from them.

I am sure the guys at Surewood could set you up with no problem.

I use carbon by choice, but have plenty of Arrows that I can shoot out of longbows up to 100# @ 29.5".  Just gotta keep checking g with sutewood shafts.

Higher spines can be hard to come by in wood shafting, but they are out there.  Fir is fairly easy to come by and I have quite a bit of it in ramin as well.  Finished arrow weight will be right up there, but with 62@31 it will shoot pretty good. One issue will be arrow length, but Reparrows can stretch them.

Ever tried "Forrester wood shafts". He has a ton of 100# stuff.

Tonkin cane can be had in high spines and they come long too- 33".

Those spine weights should be pretty common.

I feel your pain, I shoot 32" arrows and 300 spine in carbons, hard to find 100# spine and that long in wood but I know others who have.

You would think they are common enough. Until you actually try to get some. Surewood is out of them. I see a vendor called Echo Archery is advertising they have Surewood heavy spines. Anyone ever buy from them?

I see that Rose City has shafts to 80 plus listed but they may be out of stock also.  Might check with Terry at the Nocking Point.

I had similar issues balancing the necessary spine (also a 31" draw) with an acceptable weight for bows in the 40-50# range. Didn't like the huge arc. Never an issue with carbons, just pick a spine and point weight to give me what I need.

I'm in the same boat as you, too expensive to have them footed and that's about the only way I know to get them long enough and from my perspective they don't give me any advantages other than they smell good when they break

I have gotten Forster's as high as 115# .
Think he has them in stock all the time and over 120# .

What's the max finished length?

Tedd, This is Carson of Echo Archery, and now also of Surewood Shafts. Surewood has been able to keep shafts in the 85-90, 90-95, 95-100 and even 105-100 in the past, as Doug fir will produce these spines, but unfortunately, the demand for these heavy spines as more folks shoot heavy heads, has outstripped our supply. The last several logs we have run have produced beautiful straight grained shafts but not much in the stiffer spines. This winter we harvested two nice logs that look like they will produce some stiff shafts. We hope to have some of these in stock sooner than latter.

What is a good source for tonkin or cane/bamboo shafts?
