I just purchased a used Northern Mist Whisper longbow. The # on the bow is 1213-12. It is 66", 45# @ 28" with a locator grip. Walnut riser, bamboo cores with yew veneers. No overlays on the tips. I was told it was the 12th bow made in 2013?
Since there are no overlays on the tips, I am assuming a B-50 string? I was told the brace height should be between 7" to 7.5". I am assuming this is measured from the shelf since alot of the Whisper's had a reverse straight grip no locator. Any information you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Call Steve, going to guess as long as it has wedges it will be fine with fast flight.  He makes fantastic longbows but I have no experience with the Whisper.

What you have there is one fine longbow. On my Whispers I use my fist with my thumb extended to find the brace. You may want to adjust to your sweet spot. Steve will tell you that if you pad the loops you can use FF or anything you want. Both of mine have the straight grip but you will find the locator works really well. You may have found your new favorite bow.......and if not, give me a holler...lol.

Ron W, do you have tip overlays on your Whisper's or not? Thanks for all your replies.

Matt, I have a few the previous owner has sent me. I don't know how to up load them.

One fine longbow! My personal favorite. You likely have wedges in your limb tips so fastflight would be fine. Look at it closely. Mine has the locator grip and my brace height is set at 7" to the deepest part of the grip. This is perfectly tuned for me and results in a bow that is as quiet as it's name implies. Enjoy!

fishone, here's a pic of the side profile of a limb tip on the Shelton I have.  No overlays but you can see the red colored wedge that allows the use of fast flight type string material.  That particular string is an 8 strand D10 padded to 16 in the loops - no issues with using it.

Personally, I like the wedges over the overlays as it makes for a cleaner look and is still fast flight capable.

Aye what Vesty said.  Northern mists are fast flight compatible. The tips probably have a wedge inside the tips.

Something I found out recently is that all howard hill bows are also ff compatible since the 80's. tip overlays are just for aesthetics.

I agree, I like simple look in ASL bows. No overlays.

Thank-you all so much for the great replies. Pete, thanks for the photo showing the wedge in the tips.

Your bow was also the 12th bow made in December of 2013. The brace height range you asked about is correct. Every bow is a little different, so you will play with it some to see what the bow likes.

I agree with all above. The serial format is MMYY-XX where XX is the finished bow number for that month. My Whisper was finished a few weeks after yours. 5th bow in Feb of 2014:

Although my Whisper has overlays, my old Classics had wedges. I personally prefer ASLs without overlays.

BTW, my Whisper seems to like a very low brace height and I've heard a few other reverse handle shooters note the same.
