The fiancée made up a crock pot of goat curry and let me know that we were out of goat. "go to the grocery store this weekend" she said.

Well its rifle season at my favorite grocery store, and while I rifle hunt as well, I had an itch to get stick bow close.

This nanny was bedded down at the base of about a 10 foot cliff in the shade. I spotted her from across the ridge and decided that she was in the perfect place to "practice my ninja." as my buddy Ray puts it.

It was slow and steady, to avoid the eyes of other goats in the area, I was spotted but they just moved away without making the distinctive alert noise.  I took my shoes off for the last 40 or so yards of the stalk and got right to the edge of the cliff

One of the hardest things about bow hunting during Rifle season is I cannot wear camo only. I have to have a lot of that flamer orange on. I think this makes it more difficult to get close.

The Nanny was in a perfect position and the wind was working with me. As I approached the edge of the cliff and looked over I could see she was still bedded down and completely unaware of my presence.

I moved around a little bit to get a better angle, She stood. I drew back my Stalker Stickbows Coyote FXT, I let one of my 500 spine, Florescent Orange barber pole Warrior shafts fly. At a distance of 3 or 4 yards, I watched the arrow disappear behind the shoulder,  and it was over in a heart beat.

The arrow broke on the rocks on the other side of her. I watched her with the range finder. She casually walked 53 wobbly yards and laid down.  There was good blood everywhere and the arrow was covered in foamy lung blood as well.

I found her right where she laid down.  I took my flamer orange off for the picture, but dont worry the vest was back on for the hike back.

Well here she is. A nice mature Oahu Nanny. Taken at like 10 or 12 feet distance.

The grocery store sure is fun! Goat in the freezer!

Thats an awesome post! Id love to have been there with you on that hunt! Ecologically, you helped the Island, and you and your loved ones get grade A quality fresh meat in the process! Gettin close, is what stick bow hunting is all about IMHO! Thanks for taking the time to share it!

:clapper:  Cool and during gun season as well, outstanding!!
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

Yep Pat, I cannot complain one bit, except that my legs are pretty sore! lol.

Yes sir Shadow, if left unchecked goats will destroy all vegetation in an area. Over here you can get one a day, all season.

What is crazy is how easy it was to get the broad head back to shaving sharp after it had been run into the rocks!  I had to round the tip a bit, but I am pretty impressed!

Is it a zwicky, magnus,...what?

Warden609

Very cool!! Its nice to read about these hunts.

Msturm

Shadowhntr, its a zwicky Eskimo with the screw in adapter (which didn't bend either).  I guess these are a classic for a reason... This was the first time I have ever used them.

After a couple strokes with a file followed by a diamond stone.

Congrats Mike.  I would love to hunt them one day, although, I dont like the heat so It may never happen.  Most likely, I will just raise goats for meat instead.
Relax,

Great pics - definitely a cool hunting opportunity you have that few of us will ever experience.  Congrats!  I'd love to try wild goat meat one time.
