My kids had a half day at their school today. I scheduled myself off work at noon and picked them up at 1. My daughter is almost 9 and my son is the world's largest 3 year old. My daughter has hunted with me before and been wih me when I've killed deer. We went home, changed clothes and went to my local hunting spot. On the drive to the farm I explained whispering to my son. And being still. He seemed onboard. We sat in a natural blind for about 20 minutes and then my son wanted to walk.

I wasn't anticipating seeing anything. I had two kids with me. It was almost 89 degrees. I didn't even drive my truck.

We started still hunting. They stopped when I did. About 200 yards in, I heard something to our left and saw a decent young doe get out of her bed. She was quartering away, upwind at about 25 yards. My daughter saw her and froze. I told my son to stop. My daughter whispered to me to shoot her. I pulled an arrow and took a half step left to get a clear shot. My son was whispwring nonstop, "where's the deer? I want to see the deer." The doe was frozen.

As I started to draw, my daughter whispered to her brother, "stop talking!" He responded, "I'm not talking, I'm whispering, like dad taught me." I laughed. The doe moved on.

We spent the rest of the day looking at acorns until it was time for swimming practice.

I now have two hunting buddies.

Those are the best hunts. I have two young boys and the hunts I remember most when I was a kid were with my grandpa. Your raising them right!

It just doesn't get any better than that !!! And after all is said and done, when we hunt it isn't just deer we are after. We actually hunt to make memories and that is what its all about.
