Been gone for a long while. Guess I got burned out. Sold all of my archery tackle and bought a shotgun and a bird dog. Many, many great adventures with Gunner, but all good things must come to an end... Gunner's gone, but not the memories. Good dogs just don't live long enough.
I recently relocated to Arkansas to be closer to my kids and grandkids and after reading through the hunting regs found that there are pretty long and liberal bowhunting seasons down here.
While I was at my daughters house, I mentioned that I might get back into archery. My son in law says "I've got one of your bows, you should start shooting again" I asked "what bow?" He says "I don't know, it's in a bow sock under the bed". Sure enough, it's an Aspen Classic that I'd bought fifteen or so years ago. The bow is too heavy for me, but holding it was enough to turn the embers into a raging inferno...
Now if that wasn't enough, My other daughter and son in law took me up to Springfield MO last weekend to the Bass Pro Shop. Naturally I had to visit the archery hall of fame. While I was looking at the displays I ran across one with a couple of old books by Saxton Pope. "The Adventurous Bowmen" and "Hunting with the Bow and Arrow". I mentioned to my daughter that I used to have those books and wouldn't mind having them back. She says "I've got them and you can have them back". I was beside myself. I've lost, sold or just gave away so much stuff over the years that getting these treasures back was just about overwhelming.
I'm truly thankful for these gifts and just wanted to share.

Thanks. Funny thing about this story is that I don't remember ever owning the Aspen, but it says custom made for Dave Weiss... and neither myself or my daughter can remember how she got the books... Things that make you go "hmm"

Glad your back. You know you were not to far from Black Widow. They have lots of bows just waiting for you. They make a decent longbow as well.

Welcome Back, Dave!!!!! The same thing happened to me about 15 years ago (or so) I grew up bow hunting with recurves... Got tangled up in the compound thing and just got fed-up with the "latest & greatest" "new & improved" crap!!! You couldn't find any traditional bows & equipment around. I just gave up bow hunting..... Then, I met my good friend, and fellow TradGang Brother Joe Skipp!!! He led me to this sight, and I was "home" again...
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

There is a fine line between Hunting, & Sitting there looking Stupid...

Welcome back Dave.  You now have a chance to experience the joy of just getting started all over again  -  it's all fresh and new and I would imagine will be just as much fun as it was the first time.

I don't know just how much "too heavy"  that old Aspen is for you,  but if it's not too far you might consider having some weight taken off of it.  A 5 or 6# reduction is often very possible and can make a world of difference.

Enjoy!
