The archery bear hunt is fast approaching. In a little over a week, I make the trek to far Northern Wisconsin near the town of Cornucopia just south of Lake Superior's Squaw bay.

I will be hunting with Art Hyde of Northern Bayfield County Guide service. Over the summer the focus has been on practice with the homemade longbow and homemade arrows and homemade broadheads.

Now the camo has been washed in baking soda and when dry will be placed in the homemade ozone locker.

More practice and then the homemade broadheads will be rehoned with the homemade broadhead sharpening guide. The countdown clock is ticking fast now. The season (for me) opens on Sept 12th.

In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

Good luck with the bruins. Might be a tad warm tomorrow, but it'll improve after that. Shoot straight.

I wont be able to hunt until the 12th. Season opens on the 7th.

While you wait, I'll describe my 2016 archery bear hunt.
1. Look for bear
2. Find NO bear
3. Do it again next weekend due to the immensely enjoyable nature of the pursuit.
Best of luck to you, have fun.

Several years ago I won a guided bear hunt at the Wisconsin Bowhunters Assoc annual convention. This will be a baited bear.

The bear hunt was short and sweet (almost too fast) I just dropped off both of my bear at the Butcher. Normally I would do them myself but Im 5 hours from my home butcher shop.

Interesting and exciting story on how I ended up killing two bear. Im putting together a video with pictures and video explaining.

Man I love that you didn't add crap music to this. Hearing the owl and other nature sounds is as good as it gets. It's been good seeing you build the heads and now seeing how well they worked.
But his bow will remain steady, and his hands will be skillful; because of the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,  (Genesis 49:24 [NETfree])

Congratulations on your hunt with home made gear, very cool! Too bad about your truck but at least you got some additional meat out of the deal.
