Last year I got one dove all season, not in the air. This opening I got four the first day out . Took all day,  two knocked out of some small almond trees 7'-10' tall and two on the ground. All about 20 yards out.
Only took 10,000 shots. Got some good exercise chasing arrows. My arms are sore and my knees are Crying now.
Not to productive But fun.

Found this cute little gopher snake.

Tried doing some calling but the only thing that came in is the owners cat. There's a story behind the cat. No I did not shoot it.
You can hop but you can't hide.
If it was not for rabbits I would never get a buck.

Maybe its different other places, ,,,,but I always thought doves had to be in the air to shoot them?

CoachBGriff

Nice shooting as always!

Thanks for sharing.

Also, you've inspired me!  I always hunt coyotes pretty hard here in MO come December/January, but this year I'm determined to get an arrow flung at one.

In the past I've been pretty quick to retreat to a longer-range weapon, but I really want to get it done this year!
For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; instead, we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.

Nice shooting, those doves can be pretty humbling when you are chasing them with a stick and string.

Nice Brother!!!

Well, let us hear about the cat...

Awesome! I have been trying to get a dove out of the air for several years. Those suckers are FAST!

Roy from Pa

Ah come on Bisch.. I do it all the time...   :)  LOL

Thumper Dunker

Bish I still have not taken a crow in the air and been trying for years. And they are big and slow.
Getting a dove in the air would be a great trophy.
Getting a dove sleeping is hard for me. Good thing I do not need to feed myself from hunting.

I recently started training on aerial targets with a frizbee. I bought a cheap blue sleeping pad from the outdoors section in walmart years ago and still had it so I cut a circle 1/4" larger than the rim of the frizbee and pushed it in with some spray adhesive to help save the frizbee from my blunts. I have the girlfriend throw it for me and I shoot it with a flu-flu. I know this is different than a bird because it's flight is easily predictable, but damn, figuring lead on a body in flight is a lot different than one on the ground... When I hit it even though the foam is between the blunt and the frizbee it still lets out this huge plasticy CRACK! but the frizbee is still mostly undamaged after several hits. Be sure to get a good frizbee, this one is a heavier/thicker one for disk golf. Which is why I haven't blown through it like my previous aerial target, a cheaper frizbee, that after pass-through the arrow didn't seem to deviate from it's original trajectory.

Good going..now go find us a yote.

You're the first person I've ever heard of hunting doves with a bow on a regular basis. About how much lead do you use on, say a bird 20 yards out?? Congratulations BTW!
Hmmmmm. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm
not sure that what you heard is what I actually meant!

FAV 52

Good shooting Thumper ! Grass hoppers are my target this time of year .

Michael Arnette

I've shot a few off the ground before ...fun stuff

I don't lead them they are sitting in small almond trees or on the ground. The hard part is trying to get close for a shot.
