Hello!  I am just getting into Trad Archery and I am considering purchasing a higher end TD recurve.  A friend of mine has a like new Sky Archery Sky Hawk TD that he bought new sometime back.  I see they are still in business but I think this bow was built when Earl Hoyt Jr. was a part of the company.  Can anyone provide feedback on this bow and tell me it's approximate value?

Thanks,

Kevin

I've owned a couple of these over the years as well as the one pc. Eagle and found them to be handsome bows and well built.  One of these in excellent condition at your favored weight should be worth $250-300 at most.  Good luck.

BTW, if you come across the rare carbon limb version of this bow, grab it.  Earl only made a very few and they usually bring a slight premium.

He is way out of line on his price then.  He is wanting somewhere between 600-800 with accessories.

I had a couple I bought when Earl Hoyt Jr was still alive, I killed a couple deer and a caribou with one. I sold them for $700 each, in about 2005....so your buddy isn't necessarily over pricing

The responses here just show how much variation there are in prices of used bows.  I paid around $350 for each of mine and sold them for $300-325 each.

Black Widows are selling in the $600-800 range these days, so no way is a Sky Hawk comparable.  Used bow market is way down the past few years and there's quite a difference in the asking price and what it actually brings.

It's your money and if you think it's worth his price, then that's what it is worth.

Good luck to you...they're nice bows.

I bought mine new in the early 90's for $440. Identicle to the one in the pic.

Thank you everyone!  Unless I can work a good deal on it I will probably pass then.

Very good bows. I had one.  I'd say $450 max. If you're in Oklahoma that bow likely came from Pats Archery and sold for between upper $400s to upper $500s new.

I had a dealer program with Sky Archery. in the 90s. Sold both the recurves and longbows. Great shooters. One of the fastest shooting takedowns at that time!
And I also had a Widow, and Bob Lee takedowns!

Got to meet Earl and Anne at the Louisville AIM show. Kinda wished I still had their longbow!

I had 2 Skyhawks, the 3 pc TD Longbow (Rogue), and the metal handled recurve (Hunter Supreme?)

One of the Skyhawks had Carbon limbs. I had sent it in to be refinished and was told they only made 4 sets of carbon limbs. One set was still at factory so I bought them. Guess if my info was correct, I owned 1/2 of all the carbon limbs made lol. Sold both sets some time back when I dropped in weight.

Nice bows though.

Finest recurve ever made as far as I'm concerned. Mine got too heavy for me several years ago or I'd still be shooting her. Wish I could come up with a set of 50# limbs.

I'd love to have a Rogue as well. It has quite a story to it's development and my own story of why I don't have one.

Personally, start at 7.5  from the throat.

My new Sky Hawk... I have owned a few of these since the 1990's but never one in green with the high gloss finish.  Very pleased...!  Earl made superb bows at both companies!  $300.00 to $400.00 is realistic.

I paid $400 a few years back for one but it came with three sets of limbs. My son took it over and I have not been able to get it back. Great bow with above average performance.

For Charlie... My second Rogue (5th from bottom) by Earl at Sky Archery...  Just awesome bows.  Quiet and perform very well.

How long is the riser on the Sky Hawks? Are they heavy in the hand or  more moderate in heft?

I like the risers aesthetics and grip.

Besides the over all quality of the bow you choose, it's more the weight and draw length that's pertinent for a new shooter, so that you can engrain the correct form into you muscles.

Good luck.

20 1/2" Riser on my 62" AMO Sky Hawk.   Good heavy mass weight with this bow.
