Hey people, I'm looking for the book "Tracking dogs for finding wounded deer" by John Jeanenery. I got my Drahthaar pup a little over a week ago and he is doing great on liver drags and also did a 60 yard track on a half frozen deer head yesterday. But now I need some guidance. I want to do everything in my power to recover not only my game but others as well. Everyone that knows me knows that I hunt 100 percent trad and only pick up firearms to back up any youth I take hunting or for predator control. I want to open up a hog guiding service in the next couple years and cater to Traditional archers. I have several properties that are top notch and I'll be acquiring more. A properly trained dog will be an asset. I've looked everywhere I can think of and everyone is sold out till late summer. I will pay the full purchase price and shipping for anyone who has this book and is willing to part with it.
Thx, Randy

Randy,
I've trained a couple. I would implement whistle commands and make sure the dog is absolutely firm the "here"! Whistle means here now..
I would say from here start making the dog learn to use the wind..
Drag your meat for 20!or 30 yards pick it up off the ground for the same distance and then replace the scent on ground

My personal opinion a drathar is too nice a dog to be tracking wounded hogs. Not something I would have mine or my buddy's doing.

I used to live in South Georgia and I can't tell you how many hog dogs I had to treat or repair .. A wounded hog is rough on a dog
If you are dead set on using the drathar I would stock a WELL SUPPLIED first aid kit and I would talk to your vet about learning some basic skills

Pm me if you need more help

Thx for the replies. I should have been more clear in that I also do a lot of duck hunting and deer hunting. I will be focusing a lot on deer tracking as well. Hence the reason I went with a Drahthaar. Hell be an all around hunting companion. He will also be worked from a leash only to try to prevent him from going one on one with a wounded hog or getting to far off any given property.

Pat I sent you a pm.
Sorry about my misspelling.  If you google the title it pulls it up immediately without having to put the authors name in the search. Thx for the heads up.

They are in the process of an updated version with a few new chapters. I believe they are going to start taking pre-orders in a couple weeks.
