I have really good hearing and they sounded the same to me.  If there is any difference it sure isn't enough to be concerned about it.

I think 2 was not necessarily louder but noisier I'd guess that to be the lighter arrow of the two.

:biglaugh:   almost spilled my coffee when I read this!

Ist shot quieter, not at release, but hitting the target did not make as much sound.

We may all flunk this since there seems to be a consensus, lol.  there's an interesting Youtube video that someone posted the link to recently, don't recall which site. It seemed to dispel the widely held belief that 3U is louder than split and it'd be hard to dispute his results.  He recorded both with the same arrow out of a recurve and overlaid the graphs of the decibel meter. The spikes were almost identical although one (I forget which) may have been slightly longer in duration.  His conclusion, they're different sounds, but one's technically not necessarily louder than the other.

#2 arrow was 130 grains heavier than arrow #1

Just watched the split vs 3 under video and that is very enlightening.
Everything I have and have become is due to the Lord and his great mercy.

What were the arrow spines/length/tip weight? I assume the difference in your test wasn't just added point weight?  Most folks who set out to build a heavier hunting shaft go to a stiffer than required spine and then offset that with linger length and/or additional tip weight.
