Who's going to the Ojibwa Traditional 3-D, August 6&7th? They have free camping and electric, novelty and other fun events. Here is a link to their page. I'd like to find a group to shoot with, if you're going.

Half a dozen of us will be getting there pretty early Saturday morning.  Always a good shoot. Looking forward to it.

I will be there Sunday. You should have no problem finding someone to shoot with. The place will be quite busy Sat morning. Have fun!!

Wish I'd known earlier....I was maybe going up north to camp. Well that fell through and my wife wasted no time filling up the opening!!!

I haven't ever been to an archery shoot. I really need to make it to some. Planning on doing the Whitetail Bowhunters winter league.

So what is the normal course of events, a typical weekend, for one of these shoots?

Thanks,
MT

So if you have never been to a 3D shoot, you are in for a treat.

Depending on the size of the club and their space, some will have free camping, usually primitive for your tent or trailer.

Most will have sandwiches and beer/soda for sale (brats or burgers) in the clubhouse. Cost is usually $5-7 per plate maybe with beans and chips.

You register at the clubhouse and cost is usually $10-12 per shooter, per day.

There will be well marked, well clipped trails thru the woods and fields where you will meet up  with from 28-40 unsuspecting Rinehart or McKenzie deer, elk, turkeys, etc.

You can score your shots if you wish with the card they give you at registration.

Folks generally shoot in groups of 2-6.

Typical round might take 2-3 hours.

Shots are 12-25 yards...some further.

You will see different color stakes at each shot for different classes of shooters, compound, trad, youth etc.

I usually shoot from the expert stake (the one closest to the target) yukyuk...after all it takes skill to sneak that close.

Some clubs have very interesting shot scenarios, like shooting thru weeds, around trees, thru culverts, thru holes in the brush, up or down hills, across a body of water, longer shots, maybe multiple targets at each station.

Ojibwa is a great shoot. I also like Blackhawk in Northern Illinois, Poynette, Oregon, Janesville, Stoughton, East Bristol, Mineral Point, Portage, Holmen, King, Clintonville,  SCWA at Monroe,  and one of (if not the) oldest clubs in WI near my hometown, Marshal Bluff Bowhunters in Montiicello.

Then there are the Big Regional shoots with vendors and kids instructionals, aerials, iron bucks, moving shots, etc.

Places like Comptons, Denton Hill, Baltimore, Tannehill, Tennessee Classic, Sawmill, etc.

It's great fun for the whole family, and a cool way to make a short weekend trip (or longer vacation)to a new area.

You may look forward to 3D season as much as hunting season.

I know I do.

Miles, you can go to the Wisconsin page here on TG and check for shoot dates. I try to get on all of the ones that I know of. I have a shoot coming up Feb 4 in Sussex. Gary Vater always comes and I bet he would give you a ride. Ask for him at Whitetail. Also check out the Wisconsin Traditional Archers. Most of the WI folks are members. Great group of people.

Thanks for the info beaunaro, I really need to just go to some. I have one friend that is thinking about getting a bow this year...I had him shoot mine, and with 2-3 min explanation of how I shoot (after he missed the first 6 arrows at 10yds)...he was hitting 6" groups out to 15 yds.

Greg, I check over on the WI page a couple times a year, but never remember to go there.

I'm going to search around and try to get some on the calendar for next year or maybe yet this year.

Thanks again,
MT

How many arrows does one typically need to bring with? 12, 6, 1?

Who's going to be there for vendors? There was a vendor at Horicon last year that I bought an armguard from, and would like to put in a custom order for another, but he wasn't there this year, and I kick myself for not getting his business card. I wonder if he would be at this event...? If you see a guy with a black Hoyt Buffalo and Ted Nugent arrows, it's me. The weather is supposed to be very good tomorrow.

Thanks to all who helped put this shoot on! It was a great time. Really nice course, nice placement of targets and all around a wonderful experience.
