I am curious what everybody thinks of this buck as for age and what he would score. I took a conservative estiment score of 185 and 6 years old. And no, he is not a high fence deer either. He is 100% wild.

Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;

I think your dead on age wise and very close on score. I'm no expert but that's a MONSTER!!!

He is a mature buck and an outstanding specimen of a species in your area. I don't care how much he scores.

is it September yet??

I'm no good on scoring in velvet and once they get to certain point they are harder to age but 6 is certainly possible.

Difficult to tell with one pic, but hanging belly without back sag 5-6 yo is my guess. Around 180 with growing to go. Man look at those brow tines.

Thanks for all the input. The only way to be certain is put him on the ground.

The reason I am estimating under what many are, is based on prior experiences, what a deer appears to be in velvet is drastically magnified, and when velvet comes off it makes the deer look quite a bit smaller in both length and mass. Looking at him, I dont believe he will gain much from this point, until he rubs. Id shoot him in a second,,,,but I do not think he is as large as 180+. Not enough there for that...at least not with deductions. He is a great deer, but to hit 180+, he'd have to have more tine length over all, more width of spread, and likely  more mass. 180's deer dont look just really big, they look gigantic. His brow tines wont make up the difference. Again, thats picking him apart....id shoot him in a second though...

In a more precise estimate, he is a BIG, OLD boy! He is a really great buck, and I hope you get a chance to take him.

After studying him for about .00015 seconds, I determined he's big enough. Already picked the spot.....

Hope you get up close with him.   :thumbsup:
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Its impossible to tell how big he is going to be, they shrink a lot. I shot a buck in early Sept. that scored 150 and change, after it had dried it scored 142. He is definitely an older buck and a real trophy.

Too hard to judge with velvet.  But I'm guessing 165 or so.

What a trophy and story you will have if you get him. Good luck!

Probably 4 1/2 or so.  Would need a jaw bone to age any more precisely.  They grow pretty fast in the farm country of Iowa.  Velvet makes scoring difficult.  My WAG is about 160, give or take a little.
