I'll be chasing bears and bucks in the mountains with longbow in hand in early October,,perhaps a float-in canoe hunt...any guys interested in the challenge?

I have several areas in mind where success has loomed in the past...

I was planning such a hunt about 1 1/2 ago, but a new knee and some other issues have put it on the back burner for now. I was going to use an open tandem kayak and thought about Cedar River flow, or the back side of Indian lake. Right now I'm just thinking day trips to the BIG woods. If you do it keep us posted........it would be a great adventure.

AAAh Yes Ron, The Bullhead Range, and Siamese Wilderness Area, there are some ancient bucks up high, have killed a few back in there..

Always wanted to do a canoe trip in the Adirondacks    

Siamese Wilderness......The hunting camp I belong to is on the south west edge that great expanse. I have hunted in that area since 1971, with party's and alone. Big woods and some very rough country, bear, deer and now a small population of moose. Bobcat, fisher, pine martin and very large coyote/brush wolf. Hard to pattern deer but I have seen some real slammers while wandering that beautiful country.

I had he wonderful fortune to be born and raised in the northern foothills of the ADKs.  My first memories of hunting is dogging deer and small game around the big woods.  And still to this day my favorite hunt is to pick up a track in fresh snow and follow it all day never crossing a paved road.  There has been more than once that I have had to get a ride back to the start due to running out of light.

What would be a good canoe for that type of trip? I remember someone on here was asking if anyone was interested in having a freighter style canoe built. I forget who it was.

Any broad beamed canoe (40") or more will be fine..you can get back in with a solo canoe, or kayak, also, depending on how much of a minimalist you are.

Very few portages, as it is primarily crossing deep Adirondack lakes, but the weather in October can be dicey, keep that in mind.
A low profile boat loaded with gear, when the water is choppy, can spell disaster too.

I was in the Indian Lake area last week, saw lots of turkeys, a few does and one nice young buck.  I will be back there in Sept. for the moose festival in Indian Lake.  It's a beautiful area.  It sounds like a great trip!

Yes, great area. Game is quite plentiful. Heavy Black Bear population also.

Moose are quite frequent in the area also, makes for an interesting hunt!

What are the particulars: Dates, licenses, etc?
