I have one and love it! Wouldn't change a thing.

This is a little 54" takedown I put together a few weeks ago.  Bocote with Osage riser and black glass limbs.

That is an awesome looking bow! Great work!

So, just to update the thread:

I found a BEAUTIFUL Shakespeare Super Necedah online, and fell in love! I've loved this bow for several years, and I've bid on a few, but never won. I came across this one - and it's the particular iteration/model variation that I liked best - in great shape, and I just went all out bidding. Ultimately, I got it for a lot less than I was willing to pay, and I'm wildly happy with it. I just gotta make a string for it. I've got some nice B-50 Dacron I haven't even opened yet, and I'm looking forward to getting it spun into a nice little Flemish Twist.

Great discussion, guys, and happy shooting!

54" hi-speed great bow if you can find one.    [/IMG]

I heard nice things about the Hi-Speed. Of course, you tend to hear nice things about all Howatts, haha.

I was actually really curious about the HIT Pygmy or Pigmy. I can't seem to find anything on it - no pics or auctions or anything. If anyone has some leads, I'm just wondering how the HIT design translates to a short recurve.

An older one,54" Bighorn.My only 54".

The 52 inch Toelke Troll recurve is really nice.

I think Javaman,Shrew or the Toelke Pika would be in the mix at 54".

If you want a Classic the Redwing Hunter in 52" is a very nice shooting recurve. That shoots like its a longer bow.

Prometheus

Wow - that Bighorn looks awesome. It's too bad they're no longer made (correct me if I'm wrong here). That's a beaut....

Not exactly what you asked for.  This is a 56" Lil Hoot from Hoots Custom, but it was offered in shorter lengths.  I believe 56" was the longest.  This one is 42# and, pound for pound, it's by far the fastest bow I have.  I was amazed at how quick it was when I first shot it.  I think I heard that they aren't building bows now, but I'm not positive about that.

Matt Lee is still making them but his lifestyle has lots of time for more important things . Lets just say he has some Extra Arrows in his quiver now. He and I send texts and pics back and forth and became really good friends when I had a special bow made by him. My Hoots is 47# and 56" and was one of the bows he used to have on his website hanging on a limb near a little stream.I love that bow and several others like my 54" Howatt Hi speed, well all my Howatts but this year my go to bow is going to be my 60" Ace RoseOak Creations that Brandon Stahl made me back in March. For being 41#@27" it really throws my 1916 Easton Legacy's with  a punch that a 60# bow would have.
I know it may seem a bit long but it feels just right as a ground blind bow and no finger pinch to worry about.
The Hoots Lee made is also one those bows that have no pinch.
Lee and Brandon are both great folks and great craftsmen.
Now back to the 54" Howatt Hi speed that bow has a really great grip and for a short bow it also doesn't have any noticeable finger pinch and I'm sure Larry Hatfield may have had lots to do with that design as well. 54' Bows are both great bows in a ground blind and a stand if you have a side rail you need to watch so lower limb doesn't by chance hit it somehow.
I just have to keep my shots with in a 18 yard or closer range to feel comfortable on my shot with a shorter length bow.

Good to hear he's still making them, even if it's in limited quantities.  He definitely has a talent for it.  I picked mine up second hand, but it's actually my wife's.  I'd love to eventually get myself one just like it except about 5# heavier.

That Lil Hoots looks like a bow I could get along with.Actually,56" is my go to length.

You nailed it in your opening comments.  I've been shooting the same Shakespeare Super Necedah for 45 years.  I pull 30 1/2" and it is smooth all the way.  Don't think this bow has even heard of stacking!  They're out there everywhere from $20 to $100+.  Just keep looking.
Word!

I don't draw that long but I have done an FD curve on my Necedah and I was amazed to find it stack free to 31".
