for all the guys that still use tree stands, I am curious what you do with your bow while waiting in the stand? I have tried the screw in type hooks and find them not very handy, thought maybe someone would have a better idea, thanks in advance

I use the hooks that fold up and extend out from the tree about 2ft.

mostly that special branch or all my quivers have two bow hooks and two arrow holders screwed in each with the arrows so I never forget one.

I usually hold mine across my knees.

95% of the time, the bow is in my hand with a nocked arrow. It's either across my lap or vertical between my legs.  I hunt extremely thick cover and the deer are often on me before I see or hear them. Need to react and shoot quickly.

I like the fold out hangers, but hate that the recurve gets wedged on them. Any solutions for this.
Not trying to high jack.

I hunt federal lands. So one of the rules is nothing allowed to screw into trees. So I use a bow holder on the side of my summit stand

Maybe cut a circular block of wood with a hole saw that's thicker than the width of your limbs.  Put a bolt through the middle then use your drill to turn it so you can hollow out a thick groove in the middle for your limbs to "ride" in.  Slip it over the hook and voila.  Instead of hanging the bow by pinching a thin hook with the string/limb, you could hang it on the belly of the limb and the string a couple inches lower.  No pinch, no sticking, no noise.  It seems like a good idea to me in theory, but I've never tried it so it may not work well?

I always hold my bow with an arrow nocked. Sometimes I rest the lower tip on the stand and lean it against my leg, but otherwise it's in my lap. Deer can appear suddenly.

Brush buttons work great for this        On the OP question , I use the little screw in hangers but on a few occasions I failed to get a shot due to my bow hanging and a deer getting to close before seeing it , I try to hold my bow as much as I can

I prefer a branch but if I can't find one in the tree I'm in I have a extendable hanger in my pack
