Hi Gang,

First time I heard of this type of Dymondwood was about two weeks ago.

Does anyone have pics or description as to how it looks in a riser? is it jet black or does it have the typical straight grain of the laminates of other dymondwoods?

If you'd have to pick, would you go for it or "real" dark wood like ziricote, ebony or Blackwood?

I've got it on my newest TallTines and really like it. It's jet black but grainy like other diamond wood so you can see the grains depending on the lighting. Best part is its durable and has lots of mass weight which I find attractive.

Dymondwood is back?

Dymondwood, I believe, is laminated Maple that has been stabilized. You can probably get it stained in any color you want.

The factory that made it burned down--a place in Vermont.  I have not heard they had decided to rebuild. Last I heard they were not going to.

Do you mean black micarta? I've never seen Dymondwood in black, gray and charcoal, yes, but never black, even before the factory burned down.

I had a Centaur with ebony dymondwood that is just as Michael Arnette described.  It's beautiful in the sun and heavy

  Ebony Dymondwood

Post pics when it's done, really eager to see the ebony DymondWood in a finished riser.  :D

I am getting a recurve, but not using these materials.  Just got these pics when I was thinking about gettting a standard stickflinger riser, but just going to stick with my long riser.  If I was getting another stickflinger riser, that is what I was going to use.

Its not made anymore. It was actual ebony that was laminated but laid up  in a different direction than regular dymond wood so you would have to make bows from a 2 inch wide edge otherwise the grain ran the wrong way . At first it was a reasonable price but they had raised it to over $700 a sheet !

It's still made. It's imported from China. I just got a bow made from charcoal dymondwood and the bowyer I deal with sent me a pic of Ebony dymondwood. You can get rosewood, walnut, charcoal, Ebony, cocobolo etc. After the Vermont plant burnt down everyone was in a panic. It's out there with some research and knowing the right people.

It does exist, only I haven't been able to see much of it yet
