Hello all,

I am new here.  I used to hunt with traditional equipment about 20 years ago and had a Black Widow back then.  I'd like to get back into it, but don't have a bow right now.  I am interested in the Stalker Stickbows.  Does anyone have any information on their performance as compared to other bows.  I have a pretty short draw length so I like to get as much performance out of a bow as possible.  Do you think the Stalker bows will reach 190 fps at 9gpp?  I am just trying to compare the performance to some of the top of the line bows out there.  They look like really nice bows, especially for the money.

Many thanks,

Dan

Your question is too ambiguous??? 190fps at 9gpp, at what draw weight? I own a Stalker that is just under 50# at my DL, and it will not shoot a 10gpp arrow anywhere close to 190fps. On the other hand, it is smooth as silk, and slings an arrow plenty fast enough to kill critters with. South builds some incredibly fine bows!!!

And also, Welcome to the Gang!!!

Only a handful of bows could possibly meet your criteria per Blackey Schawrtz's highly respected standardized reports.

I've seen a lot a kill pics on this website with way slower bows!

They are fast, smooth and accurate as hell. For a short draw length I recommend going with a shorter bow so you can get the most of the limbs. South will advise you on what length is best for you.

While arrow speed is one component to penetration, it is only one part, and not that huge a part.  There are lots of discussions you could use the search function for.  The Ashby articles are also a great source of information on arrow penetration.  The light arrow, high fps is a marketing piece for the compound industry to use in bow sales.  Any modern trad bow from a good bowyer, a well tuned arrow from 9 to 15 gpp and a sharp broadhead will do what you need, if you have put in the practice to be consistant.  The key is to find a bow you like, fits you, shoots well for you, and has a manageable draw weight.  Then just enjoy the journey and the joy of shooting a stick and string and watching your arrow hit where you are looking!
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

I have no idea how fast my coyote long bow is. but I know that as far as accuracy and consistency it is the best bow I shoot right now.  It is no slouch with speed either.

Thanks, I appreciate the input.

South Cox is a great guy and an even better bowyer. I would put his bows  up against anyones.
