I just wanted to give you a heads up so you can put it on your calendar...

The 2016 S.T.A.R. shoot, Sherwood Traditional Archery Rendezvous will be held at Sherwood Archers in Roanoke, Va. on June 4 & 5. We hope to make this, our 11th S.T.A.R., our biggest and best shoot so far, as well as the most fun for our participants.

There will be a couple of changes this year. In the past our 3-D range has been competition based with prizes awarded. This year we have decided to switch it to a fun shoot format. We will still strive to set our targets in some of the most interesting terrain as well as realistic target presentation. Score cards will be available if you want to have some friendly competition with your fellow shooters. We feel this will allow us to incorporate some ideas to allow everyone to enjoy themselves more.

We will still have "A" range open but this year instead of field faces, we will have a full course of 2-D animals faces up for you to enjoy and tune your skills on.

The tough man shoot will still be a money shoot and will be placed up the hollow like it was last year and the fun range will be set up across the road again this year.

There will be a lot going on this year. The Medieval re-enactors will be back with their largest show to date. We will have a raffle bow once again as well as door prizes. the kitchen will be open both days and there is primitive camping available. As we have done the last couple of years, there will be a "yard sale" area where archery/bow hunting items can be bought, sold and traded.

I hope you put it on your calendars to come out and spend the weekend, or at least a day with us. There should be enough to keep you busy putting arrows in the air and "shooting till your fingers blister!"

See you in June,

Randy, I was really thinking about coming down (4+ hours) to this event. That was before my friend's father died and subsequently we'll be having them stay with us that weekend. I want to make this event some day!

A small pitch: For anyone who hasn't been there, the Roanoke area is really fine country. The hills and mountains are beautiful. The people are so nice...we love visiting that area. Coming from southern Ohio we always drive through WV, over the mountains and make a stop in Paint Bank before heading on down to Roanoke. Eat at Billy's downtown, but bring a little extra coin. The lobster mac & cheese is wicked good.

Good luck on the event...sure wish I could attend!

Looking forward to visiting with y'all at least for Sat. Haven't missed this shoot since it started-good targets, food and better people.

Randy and crew-once again had a great time at the shoot you guys and gals put on. My wife and I enjoyed just visiting with friends-old and new- and am already looking forward to next year when i should be able to again conquer those hills. Duane enjoy the treestand and next year will snuff that darn bear instead of the other way around. Great times, thanks so much for the effort.

We got home yesterday afternoon.  Once again Randy and all the guys and gals at Sherwood Archers made us feel at home and put in a ton of work hours so all us big kids could go out and play all weekend!

We had a blast as usual.  I think I'm going to have to concentrate a little more on the Toughman course next year, though.   :banghead:

I had a blast Saturday until the storm chased me in. I wish I had left my phone and wallet in my car or I wouldve just waited it out and kept shooting.

I liked how pretty much all the targets were set up so there was a back stop in case of a miss, cause I hate loosing arrows. I didnt loose any, just broke some which is fine. I will have to come back next year.

Hope that more shooters show up next year, disappointing for club members to do all that hard work and have not many shoot. To next year.

I have never been, but heard others indicate that since it was not a competition, they would skip it. Could that be a possible reason for some lower attendance?

I usually only fun shoot anyways. I would have been there but I was at our club shoot, which is always on the first Saturday of each month. The CTA. We had a kids day and many attended.

I have only heard great things about STAR. Maybe next time I can come up.

I think the weather man affected us quite a bit this year.  Although it threatened and did rain pretty heavy for an hour Saturday afternoon, the rest of the weekend was pretty nice.  The weatherman was calling for heavy, driving thunderstorms with hail for most of the day Saturday and I believe that a lot of folks opted not to drive a couple of hours with the chance of getting washed out.

We appreciate all that did show up and I believe that those that did had a great time. We still had a decent turn out and made a little money.
