Just how close have you guys had bulls walk up to you? It must be a rush to hear em bugle within bow range.

Stickbow

Too close...you can miss em under 4 yards.

Doug Treat

The closest to a bull was about 7 yds. He spooked and escaped when I started to draw. Usually, I get close to bulls when I have a cow tag.

My dad spooked some elk on a ridge about 200 yards away in 2011.  I was set up on a trail when I heard crashing.  I looked to my right and saw tan.  I waved my arms to keep the elk from trampling me.

Bull , Closest was 3 yards. One cow I killed came in so close I was afraid she would kick me when I shot her. I have had several bulls within 10 yards. Its really exciting when you are able to see one coming in from a long ways and work his way in and stop and bugle and then walk some more until you have a shot. You constantly check the wind because most times they will circle and you have to move so you keep the wind. Gets very interesting.

The closest bull I have been next to was 18 yards.  He only made it another 30.  Last season I woke up at a water hole with a cow at about 6 feet....  You should have seen our faces.

About 10 yards and of course I had a cow tag in hand, seems I always have a cow tag.     :(

Have not had an elk very close, but did have a screaming red stag bull under 15yds, and instantly knew what all the elk hunters were talking about when they say how cool it is to get them close!

Bull 4 yards, cow walked up and put her nose on the tip of my bow. wish I had a picture of her eyes when she realized what I was.
Good times!!

Matty

I've had them under 10 but when they are that close they are usually standing right behind a bunch if trees!    :banghead:

7yds is closet I've had a bull, missed him too. That was my first year toting a stick bow, don't think I'd miss now, sure hope I get a chance to find out later this year!

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

centaur

3 paces. He bugled and I could smell his breath. Never got a shot.

Orion

Had a nice bull at 7 yards on the other side of some brush.  Never got a shot.  Killed a few bulls at 12-18 yards.

LongbowArchitect

bull at 6 yards, cow at 3 yards

wingnut

I shot one at 7 yds and didn't get a shot at one that was less then 5 bugling at me. I could smell and feel his breath.

my first bull was a 10 yards and have had a few closer that I could not get a shot at ... it's exciting

mark land

About 5ft, he walked straight at me and went around the tree I was hiding behind, he did not like it when I tried to draw my bow from the side to shoot him and busted out!
They'll be no quitters till we bag us some critters!

durp

about 5 yards...waited till he turned to leave then drew and stopped him...he's on the wall with the rest of em     :)

MnFn

About twenty yards, but straight on.

I once had a curious 6x6 bull walk up to me and nudge the tip of my longbow when I was hiding next a juniper.  He seemed not to know what I was...until I turned my head and looked him in the eye!  Then he snorted, jerked his head back, spun around and ran off.  Needless to say, it wasn't a good shot opportunity, but was quite a thrill!
