Coyote skin bowquiver project

So I made up this quiver from a coyote I shot...then I got to thinking about actually caring this around the woods on public land. Bad idea?

I have many times thought about making a back quiver out of some kind of fur, but two things have stopped me. 1) Getting shot; 2) Burrs.

A bow quiver might not be quite as bad as a full back quiver, but it certainly carries some risk.

be careful of the sounds you make.

Seen lots of animal skin quivers but that's the first one I seen made into a bow quiver.

I would not worry about it. Unless you are worried about someone being jealous and taking it if you fall asleep! Cool quiver

Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Besides, you hunt primarily in bow-only areas anyway, don't ya?

Very cool quiver, btw. Also the first that I've seen as a bow quiver.

Did you do the tanning yourself? I have a green coyote skin (with the skull still in it) in my freezer that's been there for a little over a year while I wait to figure out the tanning process and get a layout/plan for a back quiver.

Tony yes I tanned it myself, I used alum and pickling solution but I would recommend some of the easy tan solutions out there from van dykes and others...super easy to use

It'd depend on the situation. I wear a leather back quiver a lot and that worries me sometimes. I usually only stick to bow only areas though. It is a really cool quiver though and depending on the woods I wouldnt worry too much.

That's pretty cool, never seen a bow quiver done with a Coyote hide like that. I have seen bow quivers covered with hide, or fur.

Giving me some ideas Just fleshed out a coyote hide and put it into pickle today, used tanning materials from McKenzie's.

It might keep the squirrels away if youre sitting in a tree stand. I bet theyve never seen a coyote in a tree.

I think it would look really cool in a cabin or a rumpus room.
As for hunting I have had Hawks dive bomb me before. That's why I would never wear a fur hat of any kind. It's a super cool use of coyote skin but I think your asking for it lol!

Tuck it under your arm ,and try not to let it get too damp in heavy downpours ,wet hide may rehydrate if too wet ,also some of the Coyote smell may reactivate ,I know because I tanned one and took it out side and the high humidity and salt that I had used in the pickle seemed to draw moisture and sweat it ,good luck.

Keep it dry, dry, dry. It will soak up rain/snow/mist like a sponge and double your bows physical weight in a hurry. Not too mention explode with a splash of water when you release an arrow. Like wet feathers do, but 10x.

One other thing I've noticed with my fur back and/or side quivers. They suck up and hold scent like sponges.
