I am thinking about doing my next bow with Black Walnut limbs.  It is hard to find some good photos of them on the net.

If anyone has a set of Black Walnuts limbs, please post them.

Thank you
Ron

Abe has a couple of in stock bows with walnut veneers on his Cari-bow website...my experience is that photos never do dark woods with lots of character justice...you can count on the actual bow looking better than any picture

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

I have a Bamabows Expedition III with walnut limbs under curly maple veneers. Really like walnut for limb core.

       Walnut burl and curly walnut.

Well, there is figured walnut, and there is furniture grade straight as good POC dark black walnut.

I prefer the later.

I love the black walnut on my Sarrels Blueridge longbow!

Those black walnuts look great.  I have a few black walnut logs in my backyard that I have been drying for possibly a dining room table.  I think I have enough to cut some strips to see if the bowyer can use them to build my new bow with.  I think it would be cool to say that the bow was built by the tree that was in my backyard.

I dont have black walnut veneers, but I do have it as limb cores on my Maddog. I absolutely am sold on it for that. For its properties, it ends up being smaller mass limbs then many popular core woods, making for a nice shooting, great feeling bow. Plus it resist warp and twist.

I'm not sure if these are black walnut, but they are walnut of some sort.

Never thought of walnut for limbs...why don't we see more of it?

Mainly because just like you, people just dont think of it... its a great limb wood.

I have a Two Tracks Echo with walnut limbs.  Very fast bow for the poundage.  Think it is an underrated limb material.

I have some awesome looking walnut from Big Jim that he sent me for a 3 piece design I've been working on. It was just to beautiful to put into a test bow, so I used something else and saved these till I get the results I want. Then I'll put them in a bow!!!

I'll post a pic later this evening when I get home! I've never been disappointed with any veneers I've got from the big guy! Always beautiful stuff with lots of character!

Well I took a pic but photobucket isn't cooperating! I'll try again tomorrow.

Walnut is a great core wood, one of my favorites.  I have never used the highly figured stuff, or veneers but, have used it as the core many times.
