I have a longbow that I took the leather grip off and now there is some glue residue that I would like to remove.  What is the best way to remove it.  Is there something that will remove it without hurting the finish?  The bowyer said I could try acetone, but I was afraid of doing that.  Any suggestions?

Hey Patrick I just pulled up an old thread from the search function about this very thing. Look down and you will see a thread I pulled up about removing barge cement, couldn't have worked any better by just rolling the stuff off.

It is probably contact cement.  Use a rubber pencil eraser to rub it off.  I use the rubber block that I use to clean my sanding belts.

I think (Goo Gone) would be the way to go.I use it allot on the tacky type of glues alot and it breaks it down and makes it easy to wipe off.I have used it to remove string wax on limbs as well.It has never harmed the finish of a bow for me.

I'll second goo gone. Used it on my 59 when I took the grip off

Third Goo-Gone, just give it a little time to work.

Just about the best glue goo remover I have found is charcoal lighter fluid.

I use rubbing alcohol and a paper towel. Get the towel very wet with the alcohol.  Takes a few minutes but has always worked for me.
