Paper tuning to bare shaft would it work?

If I took my fletched arrows and paper tuned them until I am getting bullet holes and then started cutting off 1/8 from my feathers and  tweaking my arrows until I had a bare shaft shooting straight would that be a good way to tune?

Just trying to figure out the easiest way to tune without breaking my wood arrows   :)

Don't over think this. Shooting a straight arrow is not as hard as your making it. If you paper tune and are getting bullet holes then you are good to go.

Or you can bare shaft either one will work. What you are looking for is an arrow that flies straight no side to side on the way to the target. Use one or the other you really don't have to use both unles you just like to tinker.

I'm gonna agree with Whittler, Chief.  I've been paper tuning my wood arrows for several years with great results.  When I get them shooting right at 6-10 feet, I've never had one not work all the way out and with broadheads of the same weight.

I'm a paper tuner too. It is pretty cool though to watch shaft cuts bring a bare shaft into "tune" though.

However, I prefer a certain arrow length (sight picture) and try to get close to the correct spine with the up front weight I'm planning. Then I tinker with the broadhead weight, sometimes the bow, to achieve the bullet hole.
