Any fellow Coloradans getting excited about the upcoming season?

I'm looking forward to another trip down to the SW corner of the state as well as a few local hunts with the grandkids.

Mike,

I did not draw and do not know any good OTC areas so I guess I am heading back to SW Nebraska.  Ken

monterey

Well, SW area around Durango is good, but that's probably a longer trip than SW NE.

Is there any public land hunting worthwhile in Nebraska?

Myself and a friend are headed to S. Co (about 90 minutes from Colorado Springs Airport) April 12-15. I'll be bowhunting while my buddy who has killed 180 more turkeys than I have will be using a Benelli.

You thinking these guys!
Yep, starting to get a little twitch in my string hand.

As I have Tuesday's off I may take a couple jogs out to Nebraska. weekends have proven to be a disaster on public lands with lots of hunters there. I'll try a few OTC units here near home with friends on the weekends. It's just fun to get outside in the spring weather with the bow.

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

David, you are tweaking my envy bone.   :biglaugh:

I'm planning to do some pictorials of the season.  Probably won't involve any dead birds, but hopefully some interesting sights.

I just sold my house, and the closing date is April 18.  We close on our new place the same day.  Told my wife I was going on opening weekend, or I wasn't moving.  Hopefully I can get it done, cause I have a feeling there won't be another opportunity.

You are going to be buried in "honey dos" for a long long time   :)

Unfortunately Monterey, you are correct. We tend to buy the ugliest house on the block, and this one is no exception.   Going to need new irrigation, fences,  floors, remodel bathrooms, and kitchen, among other long term projects.  So it is safe to say that the next few years will be filled with projects.  We are moving from town to the country, and  will have 14 acers, Lots of privacy, and room.

Knowing me I will find a way to sneak away for turkeys a few times.

Good luck guys, make those shots count.

That reads more like a public service project than a new home purchase.   :clapper:

Good on you and your wife. Sweat equity is a great thing.

OK, it's been on for a while now.  I still have not been out.  Maybe tomorrow if the weather holds.

Anyone doing any good?

Finally got out in Colorado last night for an evening hunt. Perfect weather, lots of deer and elk and a few birds gobbling.  Me and Colotrad (Steve) ended up calling a tom into our set up and he went after the jake decoy.  No shots (don't ask). Found this on the way out.

That's a nice antler.

I know you said "don't ask", but what happened?   :biglaugh:

I'll pull out before daylight next Tuesday for a five day Hunt.  I had planned to get out a few days  locally but between weather and family stuff it didn't happen.

One of my grandsons was picked for a hunter outreach youth Hunt put on by PAW out by Julesburg.  They headed out this morning.  I'm more excited about his Hunt than mine!

Well not knowing how aggressive the birds would be yet we set the jake out of the way a bit so incoming birds would not feel too threatened.  Of course the tom came from the exact opposite direction we expected.  Neither of us had a shot without moving some and we weren't using blinds. So we watched the show and hoped he would come in to the hens. After figuring out the jake felt more like a basketball he started putting and slowly backed out.
