For all you guys in CA, and those with deep pockets to keep our DFG in chips, I'm thinking of coordinating a mule deer backpack camp in one of the northern X-zones, and would like to see who'd be interested in schlepping in somewhere just before opening day.  This should be the 3rd Saturday in August, and we'd stay for a week after that.  It's a 6-person max per party, myself and my son for starters.  So, anyone up for being made fools of by the local mulies?

I should have said "those out-of-state guys with deep pockets"...  Sorry!

Please keep me posted on the details, Angus.

WOW, what a trip that would be.    :banghead:  It's like pulling hens teeth getting time off in August for Me.

Darrell, I'm also guessing about the date. That's when last year's season opened, but you know fish&game!  If we have another low water year, the forest service may decide to ban stoves and stuff in the area, and that would make boiling water difficult!  I'll keep you guys posted here, and we have until late may to get our tag requests in, so there's lots of time yet, and there is the issue of base camp where we hike to hunt areas vs full backpack hunting.  At worst, though, it'd be a bunch of good friends sharing a wee dram around the proverbial fire-that can't be bad!!
