I checked the HH site & all I could find about the bobcat points to it being a child or ladies bow. It's called an intermediate bow only up to 45lbs.

Knawbone... I think that picture was taken in the late eighties or early nineties. Very memorable day with good friends.

I pick the bow up from Mike on Weds and I'll put on the grip leather and strike plate/shelf leather. Not sure what color yet. (I have four different shades of green and some thin brown pigskin lining to choose from)

I believe Russ shot a Ron Maulding longbow.
Probably tamarack core lams.

How tight is the lockup on a Hill takedown sleeve? I saw one last weekend on a Wes Wallace longbow that was absolutely rock solid. Thinking about a takedown but it's got to be solid. I didn't even know the Wallace was a takedown, it had a nice locator grip, until the owner pulled it apart.

All my Hill longbows are take-downs and all the sleeves are solid.

My Hill TD is solid as a rock as well.  Takes a little pull to get it apart--it fits so snugly.

Lambow... exactly right except I think Russ' bow predated Ron's use of Tamarack. If memory serves, the bow in the picture was 85#.

Russ was strong as a bull and had a birth defect which had left him missing all the fingers on his left hand. Just a nub of a first finger and the full thumb.

When we first met he was drawing his bow leftie by using his thumb and the nub. The bowstring was contorted in all kinds of bends and his arrow flight wasn't very good.

Another friend and I made him a sling that he could use to strap the bow to his left hand and draw with his right. Since he couldn't hold the bow it would get away from him if he shot without the sling.
Making the switch helped make him a much better shot and shoot much heavier bows than when he was using his left to pull with.
I've got a Shulz Trophy Hunter sitting in the corner of the room right now that was his. 110 @ 28".

How did you know about it being a Maulding Bighorn? Maybe I wrote about it before?

Charlie, I can't remember for sure. Seems like I read an artical about him in an old bowhunter mag. Might of been "Western Bowhunter" or "Bowhunter" but it could of been in a brochure of Ron's.

Anyway, that sure was good of ya'll to help him find a better way way to shoot his longbow. He could of taken the easy way out with his birth defect and just used a compound.

Lambow... interesting!! I did do an article or two in "Western Bowhunter" back in the day.

Charlie, when you posted that pic of Russ, it clicked as a pic in Ron's brochure that I have from the early "80s, as Lambow states!
Also possible, in an add of Mauldings, in Longbow Digest from that period.

Keep the good stuff coming folks. Time to shoot some squirrels with the Longbow!

That Kitteridge jacket would make a great St.Judes item, too.

Now enjoying a HH lb and went crazy at ETAR and ordered a Jet Archery similar (what a superbly smooth shooting bow Joel allowed me to shoot there).  I'm going down in pull #'s - can I expect POC and DF shafts (in proper spine) to shoot as well as from a recurve, or would y'all suggest me getting some of those tiny diameter carbon arrows?

I just got my first Howard Hill bow the other day. I LOVE it! I noticed a slight bit more hand shock than my Black Widow PLX, but after I put on the wool silencers, it has dampened to almost unnoticeable levels. Don't get me wrong, I love my PLX, but the Hill has a very graceful, simple beauty about it that is just fantastic.

Here are the specs, Its a Cheetah right hand, 68" 58lbs at 28".  The riser is Cocobolo, the tips are as well. I got an extra lam of bamboo as well.

I ordered it with a rust wrap with intention of changing it right away.  I noticed the grip to be a little small for my hand, so instead of removing the wrap that came with it, I simply glued a piece of bison leather in dark brown over top. This has beefed it up very well, and now feels great.   Here are some pics.









This is one SMOOTH drawing bow.  It feels almost the same as the 50lb widow, at 8lb heavier.

Here is a comparison of both my bows strung. The hill still has the rust colored wrap.



Lastly, here is the quiver I made in anticipation of getting the bow!


To say I'm happy with this bow is an understatement!  It is a work of art, and I can't wait to go hunting with it this fall
