With a last name like Schulz he better be good    ;)

Any relation to John Schulz, Jeff?

Congrats on the longbow championships, btw.  Quite a feat in a state as big as TX.

Bill, good to see you here on the gang!  That was a few years back winning those shoots!  youthful eyes and shoulders!     :D     That was the pre-TP time.  Thank you for the kind words.  Lot colder in New Mexico, I bet.    ;)

I am still trying to find my relationship to the John Schulz clan.  My family came from Wisconsin and Arkansas at one point.  I have read that John Schulz original from Arkansas.

I actually really want to be related to that fella Charles Schulz, you know the artist that drew Peanuts!  Just think of the royalties!!!

Snapped a few photos of the de-evolution of form back to Hill style.

The old form:

And the de-evolution to progress forward back to Hill Style:

Any thoughts?  Pavan?  Nate, am I looking more like  a bowhunter?

BTW:  Bill we can do the steak at Texas State Longbow.

Is is just me, or does that last photo look like a dead-center bull's eye?

Alright Boys... I guess I am way behind the power curve here. I got some awesome advice from you... and have still been a constant lurker for the last 3-4 months. I still owe you a couple pictures of my Wesley Special... and I think i can get them posted before I take a road trip to go and pick up my second. I have not had the time to even get my form down to a science... but have applied all I can to the time I had.  You are all an amazing wealth of knowledge and kind of sitting and waiting for the next searchable link to go back through and reread the parts I know I need to revisit.  Thanks again, I will go upload and try and resize some pics as per TradGang instruction to see what I can get posted here.

atta boy Jeff....  the target form will surely work well on stationary targets as you well know, but it is sooo static.  Your new form is sooo much better for fluid movement.  And that's one of the benefits of shooting the Hillstyle....fluid movement, capable of shooting moving targets, or quick shots, or haphazard stances...

One thing I always tried to emulate in my form with the past longbow masters is a low bowarm shoulder, low elbow, bent wrist.  Bob Wesley makes it one of his mandates and you can now see why...it relaxes the arm yet is a very powerful martial arts like position for total bow control.  You can see how you progress by how much air space is between your arrow and bowarm at full draw.  At first your photo shows no airspace...your last photo shows a big improvement.  Here is one of my favorite photos showing the master bowman and one of his pupils... Guy Madison...showing different physiques and yet sameness of form...and lots of airspace between the arrow and bowarm.

I don't know what the problem is with photos lately....I resized the photo, it was smaller than required, just like I have done recently and almost all my photos are deleted.  Supposedly no one knows why.

Nate if you post them then move them around in your albums they disappear.

The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

Mudd,  I put it directly into my album and resized and then posted it immediately...same as I always used to...  the photo shows up on the post for a short time then disappears...  :dunno:

Nate,

Here it is, like that Hill bend.

That photo blows the doors off any recurve photo ever taken.

Longbows just look cool------and MAN are they accurate.

Going to teach a recurve-shooting Doctor how to make bowstrings this weekend, then I'm out to see if I can hit a running jackrabbit.

I will probably miss more than a few, maybe all, but at the least, I will show you the first Idaho campfire of the year.

It's time!

Okay... well lets see if the reading, rereading and lurking paid off. I have been consumed by a move to the east coast, more entertaining than I expected.... too many people and not a lot of woods.  Right before everything got boxed up I made one last sneak trip to the backside of the city park in Kentucky to play with the simplest of joys.  I need to go out and take a few more pics as she has grown and developed, through reading and playing.... need to get a few more before I go to pick up her new sister this weekend.  I am only going to take babe steps up.
This is My first Hill, one of Craig's stock Wesley Specials 55#@28 68" Koa riser. This weekend I am headed out to pick up a similar WS with UNK riser, looks a little richer and darker... with the Locator Grip, I think.  It has that slight dip in it.  I am currently shooting the 2x4, which really isn't bad.... just want to try something else and it's a great deal. I am intrigued because it is a 58#@27 so baby steps up in poundage.  I hope the 27" doesn't relate to any stacking at 28/29.
Anyway, here they are, fresh out of the box and last group before getting boxed to move.

and...

Newt says that he is going to make the moon the 51st by 2020. I wonder if a Hill longbow could hold up shooting on the moon and what the nonresident tags are going to cost by then.

Nate Steen .

Jeff saved the day and tutored me in how to post pics a little differently...we shall see if it works.....

Benny Nganabbarru

Mbugland, nice bow and shooting! Depending on the length of the bow (as long as it isn't too short), it won't stack at 28" or 29" because it is just rated at 27". I order all mine at the standard 28", knowing that I will draw more than that, and hold more weight. Craig himself told me that it just doesn't matter if a bow rated at X" is drawn a couple over or under, given that the overall length of the bow isn't too short. Tiller won't be affected.

Dragonheart-

I am interested to learn how much your personal draw shortened when making the change from "Target-Style" to "Hill-Style"?

dragonheart

About 1.25 inches shorter.  I used to shoot 27.25" draw extended and locked.  I shoot just shy of 26" now.  Part of the key is getting that shoulder "low and back".  I really like the strength in the bow arm when I do that right.
