Following up from this morning:  so a concave/convex bow has the lams stacked like ((( looking at a limb cross section?  I would have thought you would want the power fibers out on the belly side, something like (|).

I did make an r/d longbow like that this summer with bamboo belly and back (just not bamboo in the middle).  It was fast and smooth.  I want to make one for myself now, but maybe I'll try more of a Hill style?

Friend I hate to inform you but your fix is just a temporary one if you have truly been infected...lol

Hill bows and Pringles have a lot in common.

You can't just be satisfied with one.(from one who is not only infected but apparently contagious)

Rik, great pics! That is some beautiful country.

What an awesome looking place to shoot longbows!  That is breathtaking.  Where do we fly into?  Boise?  or Twin Falls?

What is on the calender for the Wed and Thursday before the shoot?

Wow, that's not too far from home. I'll put that on my calander.
Anyone know about motel accomodations in the area?

Hey guys, I am thinking about trying a teardrop grip on my next Hill.  What are your thoughts on the teardrop.  Any help would be great.

dragonheart

You have to give it some pressure in the right spot.  Bottom 3 fingers.

About the lonbow safari.....

there are cabins to be rented....google Stanley Idaho but get them early.  awesome scenery and photo ops, several famous lakes around, stuff for the family to do while you are shooting like rafting the middle fork of the salmon, fishing, tours, etc.....

think 'campin' rendezvous style for this shoot.  A great get-together.  for flying purposes, Boise is just as close as Twin Falls, but probably cheaper rates for flight and rental cars.  There are alot of guys going from Boise and Twin Falls....some rides would be available.

Stanley has a 365 day camera set up on the mountain...go to Stanley chamber of commerce website (weather reports, weekly web cam)  for pics yearly of the area....an awesome view of the mountains....

Here's a photo of Peter Stecher of Austria relaxing by a fire in '06, exactly where the Safari is to be held this year....

pics too wide - please do us all a favor and check what you post, we wanna see pics and not links to pics!

Dragon heart,

Bottom 3 fingers??  I love the teardrop and have played with pressure, I've never found that to help...that said I've noticed that there are many differences with hand shapes and there seems to be several "right ways" to grip them, depending on the shooter.  I end up holding the side of the bow with just a little meat on the belly because my thumb knuckle is displaced slightly outside of my wrist.  I get torque when I get it in the web of my thumb... This has been debated a ton.  Each bowyer even seems to have their own recommendations.

dragonheart

There is info in this thread about it.  My buddy Nate Steen told me, "like you grip a .45 pistol".  You need pressure on the meaty part of your thumb.  Grip size is of inportance.  If you watch the video and look at pictures of Hill, he has his broken wrist down on the grip, fingers are wrapped around bow with some pressure.
