Good to see you back in the shop and around here, Dick.  Hope you are feeling better and nice to know you are building again.  Not a fan of reverse risers, but I love that olivewood you're using.  Good luck with it.

Well, once again my attempts to gain control over my Hill addiction has resulted in a relapse. I just sent the funds off for a Redman. What's a Longbowman to do?

Have no regrets for your latest Hill purchase.  And enjoy every minute you spend with it.  Good luck with the new Redman.  It's a beauty.

Well, yesterday I came home to find a note from the postman.  Today I went to pick up a long white tube.

This one is a little lighter than the one I'd been having trouble with.  And the grip is different.  It has no nocking point yet, but I couldn't resist a few shots before dark.  The first set of arrows I shot weren't bad.  The bow seemed to buzz a lot though.  I figured it was probably not tillered for 3 under.  So the next round I shot split for the first time in a long time.  The buzz went away (mostly.)  I think the one outlier can be attributed to no nocking point (makes me feel better.)

Now I get what you guys all keep talking about.       :saywhat:

Ben, it isn't even Christmas yet mate.    :biglaugh:

That Olive wood looks nice Dick.

Congrats on the new bow canopyboy .

QuoteWhere do you take the measurement from? I figure you place the unstrung bow against a straight edge and measure the distance from the straight edge to the riser just below or above the leather grip. Thanks.
Mikebiz, That is right but have the straight edge intersect at the back of the string nocks and not at the very end of the limb tips.

I thought it was Christmas, Jeff!

The notice from yesterday was indeed for the 50# Wapiti! I picked it up at recess today, and unwrapped it with the kids - good humanities lesson, learning where Montana is, what American newspaper looks like, and what bamboo looks like; and then the science and mathematics of the draw weight, and comparing it to them and the other bows...

Anyway, some pictures:

There was a bit of rain this afternoon, so the lighting wasn't the best for photography.

I have shot the bow at very close range in the backyard using a close-enough cedar, but still need to make my own TS1+ string, and Douglas fir arrows.

This bow fills a "calibre gap" in the collection, and will be great for when I've been a bit too sick to shoot the heavier bows, or if I have visitors or somebody new to the sport of archery who needs a lighter bow, or just because... From the feel of shooting the cedar, even with the Dacron, I wouldn't like to be a piggy in the way of it!

Cheers, Grinch! This bow has a hint of - what do you call it? - forward set? Or reflex?

The other Hills in the stable are a string-follow 60# Redman and a straight 75# Wesley Special. All my Hills are 70".

G'day Fellows,

Grinch: So far, it is a real joy to shoot, although I am yet to put it through its proper paces.

Jeff: I won't be spending any time with it tomorrow, as I've got something else on the boil.

Kim: The top limb on Craig's bows is always pointed so that it fits easily and safely into the stringer pocket.

Okie man

Beautiful bow. I was told by Nate that I should have my Sunset Hill by late next week. I'll post some pics as soon as I can.
