Holy cow I like that color combo RLA.  You see so many fine looking bows on this site and this thread that I've kind of become a little numb if you will.  But that one just reached out and got me.  Hope it treats you well!

G'day Peter! Fellows, if you can, get ahold of Peter's book, "Legends in Archery". I have the original German edition, and recently bought the new English edition from KustomKing. There is a lot of good stuff in there about Hill, Hill bows and other folks who use/d them, including a picture of Aussie Stickbow Hunter with one of his bows and a dead billy.

I have read Peter's book and also recommend it.

I have a Hill Big Five in gray glass with an ebony riser--love it!

Mudd, funny thing about that bow--my initial order was for gray glass and purple heart riser in a Big Five string follow model. When the bow arrived it was a beautiful RIGHT HANDED bow. When I called to share that little fact, Jason checked the order and found it was indeed supposed to be a lefty.    :readit:    Well, since they had to make me another, I changed the riser to ebony.  The right hander never showed up on the bows in stock page.  Wonder what happened to it?    :bigsmyl:

It is finnally tuned!!!!  I have been struggling getting good broadhead flight out of my wesley for quite some time.  Well I had given up for the start of the season and spent the last week shooting my recurve.  After a summer of Hill shooting it felt like an alien thing and I was struggling getting comfy again. My Hill had a b50 string and a couple of weeks ago I ordered a Dyna Flight string from one of our vendors.  Well after some understandable delays It arrived today.  I strung it up, did some string streching exercises, set the Brace at 6.25 and the nock point.  Grabed a spruce arrow tipped with a STOS and went outside to the Bail.  Dead center!!  Again and again with perfect flight.  What little shock the bow had was all gone and was fast as all get out.  Well after an extinsive workout I believe that I'm ready for Saturday. Couldn't be happier.  Wood arrows back quiver Hill bow ready to go.  Sorry Nate I don't have any plad.

The bow is 48#@28" does that sound like the same one ?

I'm pretty happy with it, still getting use to it & most of my shooting time has been when the wind here was blowing about 25mph! But I think it's a keeper.

Thanks guys

Nate Steen .

Chris....solids work well too....it's movement most of the time.

I'm of the very firm opinion that most (probably 99%) of the big game we hunt in America has seen humans, lived around humans, smell humans almost daily, patterned their lives around humans in some way or other.  If we act in the woods how the animals are used to seeing us daily, we can get pretty close to them.  But if we act sneaky, jumpy, jittery, etc. like a predator, then the animal is on the alert.  If you are decently clean, moved slowly and cautiously but not creepy crouchy sneaky, you can get amazingly close to deer on the ground.  Wearing jeans and a longsleeve shirt and hat.  Then it's just up to you if you want to shoot or not.....or count coup....

Lambow

That's true, Nate... and I'll add, never look em in the eye.

David Mitchell

RLA, that 48@28 is sure what I ordered.  Did you order the bow just like it is?  I ordered 68" length, 48@28, string follow, straight grip, laced black elk wrap, no tip overlays, gray glass and purple heart. Did not have my name put on it...but left handed and it came righty. Wonder if that's the one he made for me?

RLA

That's exactly what it is, to a T. I got it from there stock bows, with this bow I'm pullin just over 27". 68" might be a little long for 27" but it sure is smooth & seems to have plenty of steam with my 570gr arrows. It's a combo you won't see many like, you did a good job picking it out for me!

RLA

I think like a lot of Hills it might be a little heavier than marked ? I'll have to check it sometime.

Aussie Stickbow Hunter

David, you bow looks great also!

Jeff

RLA

Yes, I agree! That ebony is sharp, great lookin bow! DM

David Mitchell

RLA, my Hills are ALL 4# heavier than marked and than I ordered.  My gray bow is marked 48@28 (what I ordered) but draws 52@28.  I don't own a Hill bow that weighs what it's marked.  Hope you enjoy "my" bow!  :D

what nate said.  Long time ago, I was walking around a field and seen deer, I stepped into the timber and walked around slowly of course, then once I got pretty close I got down on all fours to crawl up about 20 yards, the deer took off without smelling me.  My conclusion, was I was just a guy walking, then they seen a natural predator coyote coming at them on all four and they was gone.

tradlongbow

I've gotten close to deer and hogs on National Parks and private land, but on WMA in Florida, the deer and hogs know that their being hunted. Any movement, smell and there off. If they catch you in the treestand and see movement there gone. The animals on the WMA are aware that man is their to hunt them.

Now, if you look at the black bear in Florida, they have neen protected for many years from hunting. In the Ocala area and north of there, the bear's walk into people's yards and they are not frightened of humans because humans doesn't present a threat to them.
