Ah finally, I'm not the newest guy on the thread! Welcome to the gang Berliner! You can't find a nicer bunch of folks on the internet, hope you like it here!

Good news: I braced my 70" bow up to 7" and started get GREAT flight last night. I wasn't doing bad before but it went whisper quiet and was hitting hard! (Don't you love it when it finally comes together?) Now I'm wondering how far up I could responsibly take a modern Big Five? 7.25"? 7.5"? I just don't want to over do it. I'm sure at some point my group will open back up, but I want to be careful as I'm experimenting too.

Bad news, I now have severed a thread on my bottom loop on both strings I made for this bow. I cleaned out the grooves and looked for a rough edge but I think the bow is fine. Is it possible I made the bottom loop too tight? My trad mentor thought it looked too small but admitted he's never twisted his own strings before.

Oh yeah, I cut both strings and tossed them already.NICE D97 with slightly bigger loops is on it now.

Berliner, nice to have you here.  Check in often and feel free to share your longbow adventures.

Sounds like great fun to me mate!!!!   :)  Come on down anytime and we should be able to get you out chasing some of our feral game.

Thanks Gents,

I am going to a 3D shoot the upcoming weekend in a wonderful area in south-west Germany (6 hours drive). Try to take some pics there and post it here.
My local shooting club is located closely to the Hamburg Airport. Well, we have lots of moving targets and practice aerial shooting every week.....   ;)

6 hour drive. That sounds like where I'm at in Florida. We have lot's of good club shoots but you have to travel.

Darren, it`s a nationwide shoot. I don`t drive 12 hours every other weekend for a shoot. Usually we have lots of 3Ds within 1-2 hour drive. Actually Trad Archery and specially 3D is booming with an industry turnover growth rate of 20%+

And due to the current USD / Euro exchange rate it`s getting quite attractive to order stuff over the big pond.

Great looking bow! Nice color combination. If it shoots like it looks, you should be very happy. What is the length and draw weight?

I have a few strips of grey glass that I have been saving for a special bow. I think I might have an idea as to what that bow may look like now. That is cool looking. Congrats,

Hello Vincent, yes, a Howard Hill bow with bamboo limbs, made to your specifications WILL be faster! Shoot Straight!

Hello Peter, it`s funny to communicate in English here, as our mother-tongue is German. Should we give the guys here some hard time....?   :biglaugh:

"Danke für den Tipp. Ich plane einen Trip nach Österreich nächstes Jahr. Melde mich vorher, vielleicht können wir uns sehen?"

OK guys, don`t wanna be disrespectful and bore you to death. I just wrote: "thanks for the hint. I am planning to go to Austria next year, may we could meet then."

Let`s stick to English.
