Working with a new shooter and had her make a fist and hold against a wall. Then put her draw hand at her anchor point and measured from the wall. Should I have her actually draw bow and then measure and from anchor to back of riser or belly of same? Measuring from anchor to fist on wall was 28" which seemed long for someone 5'5". Any help is appreciated.

Drawn bow, mark arrow where it leaves back of riser, measure deepest part of nock to the mark on arrow.
shoot straight shoot often

Roy from Pa

Have her draw an arrow back, then mark the arrow at the back of the bow and measure from the bottom of the nock slot to that line on the arrow.

Take an index card and poke a small hole in it.  Hole noods to fit over artow point but still tight enough so it doesn't just slide down the shaft.  Slide the card down the shaft to riser and as they draw the card will hit the front of the riser and the shaft will slide through it.  When they hit full draw let down slowly and mark from card to nock valley.

New shooter??  Just use full length arrows for a while; until she has her shot execution working fairly consistently.

Draw length for a new shooter, like tuning  for a new shooter, is a "do it later" thing.  Learn to shoot first THEN worry about that stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions-will get her form down and then work on arrow/draw length. Appreciate the suggestions.

Just put a clothes pin on the arrow shaft up against the bow riser and draw the bow, after reaching full draw ease the string back down, take arrow off the string and bow and measure the distance from cloths pin to the nock. This way you can measure your draw length by yourself too.
