With our big game seasons just now ending, I really enjoy getting out and working with blood tracking dogs.  If you have never been exposed to the magic of what these dogs can do on lost game, you have really missed out.

I filmed a few training videos and thought I would share them for folks that are suffering cabin fever or those that just enjoy watching dogs work.

The first is my Bear tracking dog "Bear" as he works through scent break training on a 600 yard track for a "wounded bear".  This was a simulated gut shot bear with absolutely 0 visible blood on the entire track.

For those that don't know him, Bear is a 28 month old Bavarian Mountain Hound. If you hunt our bear camps, He might just save your bacon one day as he has for many hunters.

Hope you enjoy it.

Here is another where the focus was environmental conditioning (cold/snow) and working through distractions (dead geese and live coyotes). 601 yards with no visible blood.

Jerry:
Excellent videos. I particularly like your emphasis on letting the dog work things out and the dog slowly building confidence through a series of experiences that get more complex over time. That factor is of major importance in dog training and it gets too little attention in training videos and books. In that way the work you are doing with Bear parallels the work I do in training pointing dogs. Let the dog develop and learn at his/her own pace. The dog will become an expert if we provide enough valuable experiences.

Well done!

I am not going to the training segment of Trackfest but I will be testing Bear Dog at the event on Monday for UBT-3. It is one seriously challenging test.
