I bought my 9 and 11 yr old boys each a black rhino longbow for christmas, my youngest boy will be shooting a M-54 and should be around 12-14# and his draw and my oldest will be shooting the M-58 and his draw should be 22-25# I was wondering what arrows would be the best. I was going to buy some 1/4" poplar dowls, but they just look to easy to break. Should I jump them to 5/16 even if they are way to stiff or should I find them some aluminums or carbons? If so what size?  I just hate spinding 20-27 bucks for a 1/2 doz youth carbons if they are going to loss them. I was looking at the easton jazz arrows, they look like they would work.

I would contact the manufacture and ask them what they recommend. Other wise, there are plenty of charts available around here. Do a little math and get a starting point.

I was looking more at getting raw shafts so the boys can learn to make there owen arrows, and can stain them what ever color they want.

Those fiberglass shafts at foxfire archery are a good choice----and Kelly is very helpful, too.

Buy some 1/4 hardwood dowels, just check by hand and get the ones that feel stiffest and hand strighten them or use a 1/4" pulley to straighten them and cut to length and go from there. Ya can make them up with 3" feathers and nocks and points for around $12 a dozen. Shawn
