2 bows identical in draw weight one compound on traditional

from which a person is most apt to  develop shoulder problems
by shooting these bow lest say 1/2 hour everyday

Depends on your shooting style-- do you hold your draw at anchor with the traditional bow?

Pat B

I think the let off would cause more problems than a steady draw increase.

Neither if they shoot the bows correctly and aren't terribly over bowed.

My thoughts.... it depends.

There are so many factors that could play in that it is difficult to guess what will happen in the future.  Fact is, if you are pushing yourself doing any activity, eventually you will reach a point where it hurts.

To much of an excersie will screw you up sooner or later. A half hour does not seem to long but what about every other day. Body builders work different muscles each day to keep from having injuries. A big mistake I see is archers use the same muscles all the time. We do have right and left body parts and both need to be worked equally.
Try using your bow to do some excersies with your off side. I have an old video of Price Albert showing how he did that. He also did an article or two in instinctive archer magazine on using weights to develope archery muscles.
Another thought would be using a light weight bow. I would not as you muscles become accustomed to that weight and that weight may not be what you want to hunt with.
There is also a mental game involved here. OK, say half hour of shooting but today my arrows are all over. Am I going to stop? Most likely not, shoot more arrows to try and figure out what's wrong.  Half hour now is an hour and a half and muscles are real tired, maybe sore.

yes I hold at anchor a bit

bu I think the advice of not every day is good advice

at 68 have to be careful and I want to shoot my Whip a long time

its only 36 pounds draw weight

Sounds to me as though you should be able to keep shooting that bow a long time.

I switched from right side to lefty, as that is my dominant eye. I kept one righty that I try to shoot whenever I shoot one of my left hand bows; sort of a cool down exercise. You can also exercise your "off" side without actually releasing, especially if you do hold at anchor a while.

Doing an "every other day" program of exercise, working the off side on every other day is probably great as long as you don't overdo either side. I do believe it helps to keep both sides a little more even in muscle use.

I exercise 3 day a week with my Bowflex

but will try right hand just drawing to get these muscles attributed to archery

thanks

I just turned 64 and I am still going up in draw weight...I do not shoot as many arrows in the winter so my max draw weight will drop off a bit over the winter...I can shoot pretty close to 70 pounds of draw weight both right and left handed...I believe that the best way to stay in shape for shooting is to shoot...I can only comfortably shoot about 55 pounds peak weight with a compound bow these days

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

I think a lot of it has to do with your overall health as well. Diet playing a massive role. not that I would know at 27 years old but being in the medical field I think it's something to consider

Arctic Hunter

My brother sold his long bow and went to a compound due to shoulder issues.

I'm now having similar issues and have been told by the doctor that I need surgery. I've contemplated dropping down in weight, however it's the movement that hurts, no matter what the weight is. I can alter my draw a little more with a compound to help alleviate the pain. I haven't made that plunge yet, but I've seriously thought about it. Should I have surgery, I'd just about have to go back for at least a few months. I wouldn't be able to shoot my recurves like I need to until I build the strength back up.

Decisions, decisions......

canuck4570

I was looking at hoyt target recurve and their limbs goes down to 22 pounds

not traditional but to keep shooting I will look at all options

I used to shoot all day in my younger days but now mmmmm

the few first arrow even if I warm up are a bit painfull

hoyt target recurve need a arrow rest and plunger but I guess to have fun instead of quitting

still not decided
