I am sure you will get opinions on bow no problems here. Sales pitches need to take place on classifieds and you will need to be contributing member for that. I believe it is 30 dollars a year. Helps keep spammers at bay. Anyways welcome to trad gang. BTW big Jim is having a crazy sale check it out.

Realize Im new here and certainly do not want trouble but why would they charge someone a membership to purchase a bow or browse the classifieds, I can understand selling. I doubt ArcheryTalk classifieds could have become what they are with this current policy.

Petrichor

Somebody who has been here longer might know better. I believe they had many people scammed and this was a way to keep that down. The sponsor classified are free it is just individuals wanting to sell a personal bow have to be a contributing member. For example I just bought a bow from big Jim and by strings from Allen a string  maker on the site. I am not a contributing member at this time. Trust me there is something to be said about a forum that cares enough to try and protect its members from scams

I realize there are many bow forums and I am not wanting to chase you away from trad gang. This is the best forum in my opinion for read the only thing that costs is if you want classifieds for individual sale. Stick around and I am sure you will see. People go out of their way for people on this place. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

gdc,

I have owned 2 thunderchilds.  I liked the 2 piece a LOT more than the 1 piece!   This is my comparison between it and my current centaur.

Draw cycle: The centaur won, but imo it is because of how much longer the centaur was.  The TC was 56" and the Centaur is 60".

Speed: Hands down the centaur.

Hand shock: They both had little to none, but I think the TC had slightly less because of the extra weight in the handle.

Noise:  The TC is the quietest longbow I have ever shot, period!  Light arrow, heavy arrow, still super quiet!

With my draw being on the longer side(29.5"), I felt the 56" was not the best bow for me, but it was super nice, still!

In regard to the classifieds not being fee, they were around 3 years ago.  We have had some instances where people were scammed with traffic just by trusting others, etc.  I think $30 is a very nominal fee for what you get out of this site.  The knowledge and resources here are well worth $30, but they did it to help with the classifieds problems, which it did do.  When you have to "pay to play", you tend to be more invested and are not as likely to scam someone.  Though $30 is nothing if you are wanting to scam someone, it has helped.

Be patient are you will find you a TC.  I happened to find 2.  Loved them, just wanted a little longer bow.

I love my Thunderchild. BigJim makes beautiful bows that outright shoot where you look but are also quiet and no handshock.

BigJim quiver. He sales the bracket seperatly or possibly with his bow quivers. I didnt know he sold them until he came up a hunted with us the week before Halloween.

The TC is hands down one of the finest short hunting bows made IMHO.  Highly pointable, quick and smooth, and very forgiving for such a shorty.  If I could stand only having one bow I would be happy to have a TC no problem.

I have two 56" longbows that have become favorite go-to bows.

This is because for me, they shoot the most accurately.

One is my two piece TC.

I was lucky to find a beautiful black and white ebony used one in my draw weight. I think I bought it from the classifieds here.

My other favorite is a 56" RER Vortex. It has a really great, repeatable grip (the same grip as a recurve) so it is even a little more forgiving than the TC. The Vortex is a one piece longbow.

Not many of these made in 56", but you can order a new one.

Both excellent quality bows. RER is faster, but has just a little stack. That doesn't bother me one bit because of it's super accuracy.

I may have another of each built one day and if I do, the RER will be a 58"

Classifieds...

I never understood how $30 can deter a scammer, but then I do not think like a scammer, so apparently it works as a deterrent??

I have never had any problems with either the old Classifieds or the $30 one.

At any rate, we have been promised that some day we will have a chance to get our $30 back, and anyway...if you are looking for a used bow, $30 isn't much to worry about.

This is a tremendous site. You will enjoy it and gain much from the very generous and kind members and administrators.

Welcome to the gang.

Both great quality bows
