I'm planning in the future to move to Georgia to be near my family. My daughter and her husband and my grandson live North East of Atlanta, Buford/Lawrenceville area. I will move near them and would like info on areas to hunt deer/turkey/pigs and small game. Are there spots to hunt or do I have to get involved in a club/lease type thing. I still hunt with a gun now and then but I find myself leaning towards the bow more and more. Any thoughts from you folks down that way would be helpful. Also any trad archery clubs in the area I mentioned?

The Chattahoochee and Oconee forests have lots of land open to public hunting. There are numerous WMA's that you need to check on. Do some on-line research, and you will find some good info. Like any public areas, you will need to scout carefully. Get away from the roads and into the thick stuff, and you can find places free of other hunters. In the mean time, you may want to work on your Southern accent.

Ron, there is several wma's in the north Ga areas. We have a bow only club in Wilkes county (if we get to keep it next year) that most are trad guys. I would be more than happy to hook up with ya and do some hunting or point you to a wma. PM me when yo get here I am near Athens. Troy

Above Atlanta is a hard place to hunt. Land is readily available but that's fairly hilly and no longer filled with agriculture. My family is from north central GA (Blue Ridge) and I grew up hunting up there. Tough. THat's why all of them have clubs in the areas in middle GA or south.

Public land hunting is definitely better south of Atlanta.

If you don't want to travel. In all honesty a club is best. More than likely that is going to be on either agricultural land or timber land that is at least managed for something.
