G'day guys,

I'm wanting to get back into making my own strings again after a few years lay off. I don't need any strings now as I got two with my new Black Widow PCHX that are DF97... but thought I'd do me some homework. Kinda like to make my own items, hence our love of Traditional archery and bowhunting.

What are you guys using now-a-days, D10, DF97...?

Also, my new widow is 63#. I see skinny strings are in now...?

Cheers from a warm aussie,

AK.

Hi Al - I am really liking the blended stuff ( 70% Dyeema, 30 % Vectran).  Some materials like that are BCY 450+ and the new BCY-X.  The blended materials seem to make a quiet, stable string that has all the performance you'd come to expect from Fast Flight.  I've been building 8 strand 450+ flemish twist strings that are padded to 12 in the loops. I get perfect nock fit on the Easton X nocks of my Axis Trads if I serve the 8 strands of 450+ with Halo .024 serving. Getting absolutely wonderful performance out of that combo.

Good luck to you!

I like the BCY-X on my PSA. I twisted up several, and found a 12 strand with the loops padded to 20 with B-50 to be an excellent combo. It's the quietest string I've used on any of my widows.

Dynaflight '97 is a very good material, but BCY-X is the best I've used.  Very small strand, about 1/2 the diameter of Dynaflight '97.  I like 18-20 strands, loops padded to 24 in Flemish.

Al, if you are needing string material and/or serving, let me know.  I can get you a deal on it.

My experience with "skinny" strings is I can't get them to do anything a more moderate strand count won't do, except they stretch/creep more, wear our faster, and are more aggravating to serve to get a decent nock fit.  Your mileage may vary.  Since you are going to make your own, experiment and see what works best for you.

Thanks guys. Currently I've 4 spare stings in 'War Stocks' so I should be OK for a spell. In saying that though... there is no harm in twisting up a few.
