Thank you everyone for the kind words,
After writing the story of the adventure I went on to tag another nice buck I started thinking. How much does luck play in our success in this life of hunting with just enough equipment to get it done?
Something Beth Windauer said to me in her email back after I sent the shorter version of the story with the pictures, "Sounds like it
all came together" we have heard those words so many times over the years, I think the luck factor and the skill factor all come together as well, I have grunted at deer just standing there and they acted like the didn't even notice, but this buck came in like on a string, don't figure.
The thing at the dead tree made me move, with my skill as a woodsman I have never climbed a dead tree in my life, well now I can't say that anymore how about it. It's a great thing being able to take an animal like this, I thank God my savior every time, to be able to walk to a spot in the woods and take part in the natural way that it was intended to be, make me feel small. A small little tick on the clock of time and I look forward to the glory days when I'm looking down on myself after I have passed. To see all of the mistakes and to witness how close I had come to completing that task will be enlightening.

Thats a nice buck and a nice shot. Are you hunting around Columbia? I'm from Elizabethtown near the river originally.  My dad has arrowed some fine deer around the Masonic Village when we owned property bordering it.

An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. So when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it's going to launch you into something great.
