Well day 10 of 13 I finally saw and connected on a decent WV buck. I had almost 2 weeks off this year to hunt.Everyone I know have been complaining that rutting activity was slow. I was no exception! I saw 1 really good buck on Nov 1 and had him at 25 yards for almost 10 minutes. He wasn't sure but he knew something was up and finally walked into the thicket at dark. After him I have only seen a tall 3 point and a basket rack 8.
On the 9th and 10th I had over 9 hours on stand without seeing a deer. I was going to go on the morning of the 11th with my son but sleeping in and staying at his girlfriends won out. So I decided to go by myself, I'm glad I did!.
At 705 am a doe came in from my left and walked in front of my stand at a semi consistent pace. After going past me she stopped about 20 yds down the trail and looked back.    :goldtooth:
Something was behind her!. I caught movement about 75 to 100 yds to my left.  In short time he was on me. I never even stood up, stayed seated and got turned in the stand.
He stopped in front of me about 20 yards out, only problem was where he stopped, there were  2 trees between me and him that formed a V and blocked some of his body. The trees were about 10 yds from me and 10 yds from him.
If he took one more step he was wide open  but I was afraind it would be one more step and he would be off!
I had about a 6 or 8 inch opening to go though but I did had a good shot at the vitals. I figured if I hit the trees it would have been a crappy hit anyway. I hit full draw and let loose. I saw the arrow bury low in the chest. He took off and ran maybe 35-40 yds and stopped. I saw him wobble a little and then crash!. He did manage to get back up for a split second but fell back over.
10 days of hunting and it was over in 15 seconds!
Not a monster monster buck but I am happy with him. Looking forward to the rest of the season

Not a monster?? Sure wouldn't have passed him either-congrats.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.
