Used to eat heated Hormel tamales in a glass jar for lunch as a kid. Loved em! I don't think I would be chowing on cold tamales from a can however. YUKK! I have sat and ate others homemade trail "gorp" that was about as tasteful as beach sand just to be polite.

I recently ate a fiber bar that I said "tasted like the back of a tablet".

all the above still better than MRE's! Although some of the younger guys are telling me that there are some decent tasting MRE's these days. After my time in service was done I always took MRE's with me on hunts. Until one day I stopped and though. HUH? why the heck am I still eating "grey beef patty".  :)

There are very few foods that don't get vastly improved by the inclusion of bacon; and that includes more bacon.   :shaka:

A lot of women, and a few men, like yogurt.  As far as I'm concerned, it looks and tastes like glop.

ChuckC,

Growing up in Tennessee, we never ate that stinking stuff. We had the good stuff, such as potted meat, spam, and vienna sausages.

I don't know what "glop" tastes like, but yogurt is pretty good (the flavored types, not the plain) Have never taken it on a hunt however!

A lot of things taste good (that you may not think so otherwise) after you've been in the woods for a few hours. But after all is said and done, I can't ever remember taking anything to the woods that I didn't consider "good tasting" at home.   :goldtooth:
Hmmmmm. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm
not sure that what you heard is what I actually meant!

I used to get in the mood for some canned tamales. The mood didn't strike all that often, but I do remember you don't eat the paper.

I grew up on fried Spam smothered in ketsup and also Vienna sausages cut in half (lengthwise) placed between two pieces of well mayonnaised bread, and my Dad's altime favorite...Macaroni and tomatoes.  Yeah, you read that right, NO meat was included in his favorite.  To this day, I still can't choke down the thought of eating it again.

When I hunted on Kauai, Hawaii a few years ago, I carried a couple cans of spam and a spoon.  Cold Spam sucks back here in Michigan, but for some odd reason, cold Spam in the mountains of Hawii was a gourmet meal.  HA!!
