Hey Fella's,

I'm headed to Kansas tomorrow for a much anticipated Whitetail hunt.  I'll be hunting north of Salina.  Reports say the Big Boys are starting to move.  Moon's right, Rut is on but its a little hot.

Can't wait to get in my Tree!

BradLantz

good luck !  post pic's, keep everyone updated

sam barrett

Good Luck I hunted just east of there on FT riley and the buck in my avatar came from that area. Not to mention I seen 12 on the hoof that were 150 or better last year should be a great year.

Nuctech

Good Luck.  Be careful being in a tree on wednesday supposed to be wind gusts of 50 mph or higher. I will be in northwest kansas trying not to blow away!

Gabe

BigTimber

Probably won't be in my tree with 50 mph gust.  Always something a fella has to deal with.

BigTimber

Just checked the weather again!  Possibility of high gust.  Therefore, I'll be in my tree in a Ladder Stand strapped in if that's what it takes.  If it wern't for the rut, I'm sure the deer would lay up in the heavy winds.  Course, things can change for the better between now and then.  Weather forecast have been know to change now and then.

The action started to amp up today in my area of Kansas. Saw a couple of nice ones moving well after daylight and trailing does like a bird dog.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

Jimscol

Good luck.  I am heading to eastern KS tomorrow. Looks like our timing is just about right.  Jim

Saw 5 deer in a harvested bean field at 8:20 this morning. One was a pretty nice buck.
Good luck on your hunt.

BigTimber

Thanks Guys.  Latest weather report says a bit of wind Wednesday then the rest of the week looks good.  Good luck to everyone headed over to Kansas this week.

K.S.TRAPPER

Seen some of my biggest bucks and killed some from the stand on super windy days, during the pre-rut which is what going on right now the bucks don't lay up like your thinking.

The does will try but the bucks are running around from bedding area to bedding area checking does hoping they can find one coming into estros. This is when the are at there craziest good time to rattle and grunt, we have already had two different bucks running around right in the middle of our town the last few days.

There getting real love sick    :bigsmyl:  good luck on your trip.

Tracy
You really haven't hunted the old fashion way until you've done it from one of these Indian houses.(The Tipi) "Glenn ST. Charles"

Started to get a little wind this morning but, only lite. Had a nice 10 come thru work a scrape and was 30 yds. out, then turned the wrong way to follow does instead of meet his maker. Lots of movement again today.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

Settled in to Camp in the King Suite at the Baymont in Salina.  Look forward to tomorrows hunt.  We will deal with the wind as long as things don't get too crazy. We won't be hunting field edges.  This is some excellent looking country.  Looks like the wind will lay down the rest of the week.  I think Thursday will be a good day (hell, their all good) to be in the woods

Paul/KS

You are hunting in the central part of Kansas, the wind is Always blowing.
Nothing is more nervous than a Kansan during a long stretch of mild weather...   ;)

What a tough day!  Wind wasn't bad until about 10am then all hell broke loose.  I saw Does early and late but no Bucks.  If I'd had a shot I'm not sure I would have taken it because my tree was swaying so much.  Beats the hell out of working though.
Almost forgot.  I heard what I thought was a rifle shot and then what sounded like Thunder.  All of a sudden I realized that a large tree somewhere behind me had been blown down!

Looking forward to tomorrow.

Seems like mornings are better right now.  Saw a biggun chasing a doe yesterday morning.  Saw a total of 7.  This morning had a nice one bedded near the stand......  jumped as we walked in.   Saw a 7 point chasing a doe a total of 7 again.  Had a yearling at 5 yards but passed as it was just light enough to shoot.
