This morning while I was hunting I had a giant buck chase some does across field and bed down in a thicket after a couple hours I decided to move me stand on down where the deer crossed after I put my new stand up on tree I got in to test it out I snapped in started putting my bow hanger in. Next thing I knew I was laying on the ground the strap I hung my stand with had snapped and my safety strap tore off the attachment on the way down some how I wasn't hurt after falling about 18 feet besides a scraped hand and safety lanyard burn on my neck. So please check your stuff before using I was more worried about getting up quietly and watching where the deer were bedded than being safe I was very lucky.  Stupid hurts... Safe hunting -Nick-

I glad to hear you are OK, and that you will be able to hunt another day.
It sounds like someone was watching over you!

Been there when I played stupid and put a tree step back into a preused hole. It didn't hold and neither did I. Sometimes we get a wakeup call and some are not so fortunate. The Lord is my protector. Thankful your all right.

Glad you are OK! That was a close one.

I did the same thing about 25 years ago but ended up with a broken back and wrist.

Glad to hear you're okay but I have to disagree with someone watching over you. Maybe that "someone" should have alerted you to the faulty safety harness in the first place.

nkw880,
So glad you are alive and unharmed, relatively.

Highlow,
God lets us make our choices and at times He keeps us from maiming or killing ourselves in the consequences.  He's kept me from killing myself in stupid decisions on multiple occasions, of which I am thankful.

Check your gear every year. If anything even LOOKS faulty, replace it.    :readit:   Personally, I'm too old to be in trees anymore, but I have fallen once,.......back when.
Glad you weren't seriously hurt!
Hmmmmm. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm
not sure that what you heard is what I actually meant!

I'm so glad you were not seriously hurt!!!!!

I'm too old to clime trees anymore & I have fallen a few times over the years. This is one of the reasons I will not go into the woods before light... Honestly, just HOW good, can you check your equipment in the dark???? We tend to take many things for granted... Sometimes, we get lucky! Sometimes, well..... I don't believe anyone would intentionally be careless. But hey, sometimes things just happen!

Yes it was a hangon stand I opted to use an old strap as opposed to putting on one of the brand new ones I have in my truck. And I got the riot act from  my brother citing that I always take short cuts

Glad you are okay! Did not understand the safety harness part, could you explain that more for the safety of others?
Thanks
