Hi everyone,

I just switched from a medium grip recurve to a medium/low tending to low grip recurve and while keeping same form and anchor shooting split finger on both, my draw length seemed to decrease from 30" to 29". Am I missing something or is this normal?

Yup, it's normal. Just hold your hand out in bow position and rock it up and down into high wrist to low wrist position and you can see the difference easily. I shoot just about all of them with a medium to high grip, no matter the riser design, so my draw stays pretty consistent. The exception would be for a Hill style, straight grip bow. They just don't like that grip, so it's heel down, grip it and rip it. That's one of the reasons Howard Hill, who was a big fella, had a relatively short draw.

I gain exactly an inch of draw length switching from my nearly straight grip long bow to my medium wrist grip recurve.

Depending on draw weight and grip style I shoot my bows at anywhere from about 29 inches to 31 inches...the only standard I pay any attention to is how accurately and consistently I shoot each bow...the truth is that for shooting game up to 20 yards mediocre accuracy is often adequate...when I want to shoot further I limit myself to two or three bows I shoot best

A good friend who is a bowyer and bowhunter of long standing puts it this way: "Draw length is whatever feels comfortable to you at the moment"...I have seen some great shooting done with what I would call a floating anchor
